About Maya

Hello, I'm Maya! Language has always been my passion, and I began my French language journey at a young age. Growing up in the UK, I frequently visited extended family in France, where I immersed myself and achieved bilingual fluency. Initially, I pursued English Literature at Oxford University but later relocated to the U.S., where I switched my focus to French studies.

I excelled in my studies, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA and earning the accolade of the most outstanding student in the foreign language department. For 7 years, I taught at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, where I instructed English as a foreign language to French children and French as a foreign language to American students.

Currently, I teach French to high-school students at Fusion Academy, a unique private school, on a one-on-one basis. In my spare time, I am collaborating with a French Canadian author on translating his first novel, which was initially published in French, into English. My experiences have deeply enriched my understanding and love for teaching French, and I am eager to share this passion and knowledge with you!

About the lesson

As a learner-centered teacher, my primary aim is to tap into and ignite your intrinsic motivation for learning French. This involves understanding your unique learning style, identifying what captivates you most, and customizing my teaching methods to align with your preferences. My approach is rooted in patience and encouragement, supporting you at every step of your language journey.

I am committed to making the learning process empowering, engaging, and accessible. Learning should not only be effective but also enjoyable and meaningful. I view my role as a facilitator, dedicated to clearing any hurdles in your path to fluency. I cater to learners of all levels and ages, though I have a special affinity for working with high school students and adults.
