In the past 4 years as a private tutor I've learned that the best way to help students is to go through the concepts they are working on together and guide them through problems. This allows me to pinpoint areas where each student struggles with and help them understand the material. I strongly believe that the best way to learn something is through doing it, and a lecture on some topic won't be as useful as working through problems. Working with students from several age groups has allowed me to refine how I explain material and guide my students. I've worked with students studying basic arithmetic to linear algebra.
