About Emma
I have been teaching students for more than 7 years now, but started working in the Upper Canada District School Board as a qualified primary/junior teacher last year- and continuing this year. I have been a special education teacher for a year (2020-2021), home instruction teacher (2021), summer school special education teacher (2021), occasional teacher (substituting, 2020-2021), and had my own grade 6 class where I taught science and English (2020-2021). I have been an emergency Educational Assistant, as well (2018-2021). In university, I taught intermediate students health with Queen's Health Outreach (2018-2019) and was a Residence Don for a year (2017-2018) where I facilitated education and social programming that met the needs of the residents.
Degrees and Additional Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education (Queen's University)
Bachelor of Arts with major in English (Queen's University)
Special Education Part 1 (2020, Queen's University)

When thinking about my personal goals as an educator, this is what I think of:
I want to establish a consistent, equitable and intentional culture of well-being and inclusivity in my classroom- whether that's in-person, online, a whole class, or 1:1. I strive every single time I am teaching to seek opportunities to build a community where innovation, inquiry, equity, belonging, safety and responsible stewardship are reflected. I have come to appreciate with the pandemic how to be creative and use thoughtful accommodations and modifications to support my students. I believe I can create a safe and fun environment where my students will have opportunities to be taught and assessed as an individual to reach their highest level of success.
Overall, I want too support students in their education goals by being a reliable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic educator!

I am a firm believer in learning about my students as individuals to plan my lessons accordingly. I want to ensure that everyone that is in my class feels important and heard. I always encourage questions and curiosity during lessons. I also believe in allowing students to use various methods to demonstrate their learning- not one method works for everyone! I enjoy using technology during my lessons, as well. Overall, your well-being matters to me, and I will do whatever it takes to help you reach your goals.
Here is a typical lesson plan for me to use:
Minds-On: Something interesting to get students interested and thinking about the topic
Main Lesson: Ensure there are lots of various ways of showing the material (i.e. technology, videos, reading material, having students do hands-on experiences, etc.)- differentiation is crucial
Body-Break: If students need a body-break, this is important to include throughout the lesson
Consolidation: Use an assessment for learning or of learning to see how students are understanding the material
My main experience is in: elementary, special education, English, online learning, in-person learning, and ESL. However, if you are in high school, post-secondary school or beyond, I could be the right person for you and can work with you to create a plan for success.
I look forward to meeting you!
