About Alison
I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary education and am currently completing a Master of Education degree program in Literacy and Second Language Studies with a concentration in TESOL. I have experience working at an international school as an English Language Learner (ELL) specialist for three years in Thailand, where I helped support primary-aged students who were new to the English language. I provided lessons encompassing a range of skill-building activities in the four areas of language learning: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. My goal in this position was to help students become more comfortable and confident communicating in English and also helped them continue to build their English proficiency to test out of the ELL program and be successful in their mainstream classrooms.

My teaching philosophy is based on building strong connections with my students and focusing on each student as an individual. By creating a positive relationship with my students, I can create a comfortable and safe learning environment where students feel they can take risks, share ideas, and are not afraid to make mistakes. Also, by recognizing that all students are unique individuals, I can focus on learning about their backgrounds, experiences, learning styles, and affective factors which all affect how a student will learn a new language. By getting to know each student, I can create the best lessons that will support them in a way that helps them reach their own goals and their highest potential.
