About Maham
I am an English tutor with a genuine passion for language, learning, and helping students discover their own potential. My background is in psychology and neuroscience I hold an MSc in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience from Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge and a BS in Applied Psychology and this scientific understanding of how people learn shapes everything about the way I teach.
Alongside my academic background, I have extensive practical teaching experience. I currently work as a SEN Specialist Outreach Tutor, supporting children with autism, ADHD, and complex communication needs on a 1:1 basis. Before this I worked as a SEN Teaching Assistant in a specialist school setting, and I have several years of experience as a private English tutor supporting students across primary, secondary, and GCSE levels. I have also worked with adult ESL learners building English fluency for real-world use.
What I bring to every lesson is patience, warmth, and a genuine belief that every learner can succeed with the right support. I take pride in being reliable, professional, and organised parents and students can expect punctual sessions, clear communication, and lessons that are consistently well-planned. I hold an Enhanced DBS check and have completed safeguarding training up to Level 3, so families can feel confident that their child is in safe, professional hands.
I believe that learning English should never feel stressful or discouraging. Whether a student is struggling with the basics, preparing for an important exam, or building fluency as a second language, I create a calm and supportive space where they can grow at their own pace. My aim is not only to improve grades but to build confidence, curiosity, and a real love for the subject that lasts long

My English lessons are personalised, structured, and designed to help every student build genuine confidence in the subject. I combine clear explanations, real-life examples, structured practice, and regular feedback so students can see and feel their own progress.
My approach is rooted in my background in neuropsychology and SEN teaching, I understand how different minds learn, and I adapt my teaching style, pace, and materials to match each student’s needs, personality, and goals. For younger learners, I focus on making lessons playful, engaging, and confidence-building. For older students, GCSE candidates, and adult learners, I focus on techniques, exam skills, and practical application. For ESL learners, I combine grammar, speaking practice, reading, and writing with cultural context to build fluency naturally.
Typical lesson length: 60 minutes. Shorter 30 or 45 minute sessions are available for younger children or focused revision. Packages of 5 or 10 lessons are offered at a reduced rate for students committing to longer-term progress.
My qualifications and experience:
• MSc in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience — Anglia Ruskin University
• BS (Hons) in Applied Psychology
• Current SEN Specialist Outreach Tutor working with autistic children and pupils with complex learning needs
• Former SEN Teaching Assistant in a specialist school setting
• Experienced private tutor with a strong track record of measurable improvement including one student who progressed from disengaged and low-confidence to consistently earning Star of the Week and participating fully in school life within a year
Who my lessons are for: Primary and secondary students (KS1 to KS4), GCSE candidates, adult learners returning to study, and ESL learners of all levels. I welcome students with SEND, dyslexia, ADHD, and anyone who has previously found English difficult. Every learner is met where they are.
Lessons are available online or in person. My aim is simple to help every student become a confident, independent learner who genuinely enjoys learning English.
