About Philip

I bring 15 years of teaching experience, including 11 years as Head of Maths and 3 years as an Assistant Headteacher, which means I understand the curriculum, exam requirements and the common barriers students face.

My experience includes supporting students who struggle to secure a Grade 4/5, as well as stretching high‑ability learners aiming for Grade 8/9.

My Approach to Tutoring

I create a calm, supportive learning environment where students feel confident to ask questions, make mistakes and grow. My teaching is highly personalised: I break concepts down clearly, model methods step‑by‑step, and use targeted practice to build fluency. I adapt my techniques to each learner, whether they need confidence‑building foundations or high‑challenge stretch towards top grades.

Lessons last 60 minutes (in person) / 55 minutes (online), giving enough time for explanation, guided practice and independent application. I also provide short review tasks to reinforce learning between sessions.

My tutoring is suitable for learners from KS3 through to GCSE, typically ages 11‑16. As a father of two, I know how important it is for young people to feel encouraged, understood and motivated, and I bring that same warmth and patience to every lesson.
