About Xavier
Hi there! I have 12 months of experience as a college tutor. I am currently a Junior studying physics at UCLA. Before UCLA I took classes at my local community college, Grossmont College, and transferred with associates in Mathematics, Physics, and University Studies.
Some of my personal goals are to get a PhD in some branch of physics known as biophysics, and eventually become a professor at a respected University. I was not always the best student growing up, but along the way I developed a passion for learning, research, and teaching. I hope that this experience as a tutor will better prepare me for becoming a professor later down the line. In my free time I enjoy running, swimming, biking, and playing the guitar!

I consider myself to be a facilitator and not a lecturer. This means that I am not going to just tell you what steps to take and give you the answer to every problem. Instead, I encourage my students to think deeply and arrive at their own conclusions with my assistance.
What does this look like? Well, I will try to guide the student's thinking process by asking open-ended questions, challenging assumptions, and encouraging the student to consider different perspectives. I believe this strategy is far more effective for the student to actually understand the material and decrease confusion.
This approach, as well as my own personal guidance to tutoring from professors that I have tutored for is what sets me apart as a tutor. I hope that every tutoring session is impactful not only in developing an understanding of a topic that a student may have been unfamiliar with, but also in gaining a more profound respect for the subject of which they are learning.
I tutor students from Elementary School to College! Please stop by (virtually!) if you ever need some assistance.
