Super Tutor

Ally is one of our best French tutors. High-quality profile and excellent qualifications, organised and responsive to lesson requests, appreciated by their students!

About Ally

Bonjour toi! I'm a native French speaker with over 5 years of experience teaching languages.

I grew up in the south of France and have lived in several French cities, including Lyon and Bordeaux. I studied politics at Sciences Po Bordeaux and also at the University of California, San Diego.

I love the diversity of the people I've met through teaching! I've taught complete beginners, intermediate and advanced learners, as well as people looking to improve their professional French, brush up on their French, or simply explore the language and culture.

Having learned several languages myself (English, Spanish, German and a little bit of Portuguese), I understand the challenges that come with learning a new one (hello, faux amis!).

Passionate about French culture, I love diving into its music, cinema, and literature and I’d be thrilled to share that passion with you!

About the lesson

I've been living in the US between California and NY for 8 years now, so I can anticipate some of the challenges English speakers face when learning French (hello, faux amis!).

I love French literature, cinema, and music and I'm very interested in politics, but I can talk about pretty much anything! I'm happy to adapt to your interests and goals, whether you'd like to work on grammar, focus on conversation, or find a balance between the two.

We'll practice speaking, work on pronunciation, and explore French through videos, music and texts, so you can get a feel for how French is actually spoken. I can also recommend podcasts, radio stations and other resources to help you keep learning between lessons.

I focus on building speaking confidence, not just memorizing grammar rules, and I'm very excited to meet you and help you on your journey to fluency! :)

Viviana is a very pleasant and motivated student. Even from our first lesson, she showed a strong interest in learning and a clear goal: preparing for her upcoming trip to Paris this summer. I’m looking forward to continuing our lessons!

Perfect! Ally is a great and kind teacher. She gently corrects my grammar and pronunciation, and offers the French slang for what I'm trying to say. It's a lot of fun learning with her.

I have studied French for 2 years, but hadn't spoken it for so long that I felt embarrassed doing it again. However, Ally made the session feel so natural and entertaining that my concerns were instantly blown away. Ally has an unbelievable energy that makes you want to chat about all sorts of topics, and she is definitely the right choice if you're looking for a long-term language partner (who doesn't want to have fun while learning, right?). I would recommend her to anybody who wants to practice their French casually or formally—she is a true chameleon in that sense! ;)

Ally was a huge help in getting me ready for my trip to France! We worked on things I'd actually need, like ordering at restaurants and having everyday conversations, and she taught me lots of expressions and little cultural things you probably wouldn't learn from a textbook. I really liked that the lessons were adapted to me and what I wanted to learn. She's super friendly and easy to talk to, so the lessons never felt intimidating. I originally started taking lessons for my trip, but I enjoyed them so much that I wanted to keep learning afterward. I'd definitely recommend her to anyone wanting to learn French!

I've really enjoyed my French lessons with Ally! I wanted to improve my French at my own pace without feeling like I was back at school, and she's made the whole experience really enjoyable. She's patient, easy to talk to, and never makes me feel bad or awkward when I get things wrong. We can have a laugh, ask questions, and talk about all sorts of things, including French culture and everyday life in France. I always look forward to our lessons and would happily recommend Ally to anyone wanting to learn French in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere
