About Claire

I`m а fully qualified secondary school teacher and Adult Education tutor. With over 18 years of teaching experience, I focus on KS3 studies, GCSE Maths, GCSE Science. Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy. Since 2015 I have worked as a supply teacher specialising in Maths and Science. I have well-developed experience delivering across the KS3 curriculum. Before 2015, from 2003 to 2015, I worked in a large regional college providing GCSE Maths, Key Skills and Functional Skills in Literacy and Numeracy. Before 2003, I worked as a GCSE English Language & Literacy teacher in a small local college. Before leaving London in the year 2000, I had worked since 1994 in a training and development company, creating training and education materials for delivery for professional development.

My experience between 2015 to now has been in mainstream academies and SEMH schools. I have extensive knowledge of tutoring adults with learning difficulties in numeracy and literacy. I worked with adults with learning difficulties as my voluntary role from 2000 to 2019.

It has been my pleasure to work evenings, school holidays, and weekends tutoring during my teaching career. Previous to the recent pandemic, I would teach in students homes. Since the lock-down easement, I have been investigating the local-authority provision of safe and affordable Covid-Safe teaching rooms in community centres, libraries and council offices.

I am an experienced online tutor with over 23 years of teaching, mentoring, and tutoring experience. Over the years I have worked with learners of different ages, abilities, and educational backgrounds, helping them to build confidence and achieve their individual goals.

I now specialise exclusively in online tuition and have developed a highly effective virtual learning environment. Lessons are delivered one-to-one and tailored to each student's individual learning plan. I make extensive use of online teaching tools, including Google Classroom, interactive whiteboards, quizzes, games, and learning platforms such as Kahoot to keep lessons engaging, accessible, and enjoyable.

My online lessons combine clear explanations, guided practice, interactive activities, and regular feedback to ensure students remain actively involved in their learning. Resources are organised digitally, allowing students and parents to access materials easily and track progress over time.

I am confident using a wide range of online platforms and technology, enabling lessons to run smoothly and professionally. Whether you are studying for GCSEs, Functional Skills, school assessments, or simply want to improve your confidence in maths, I will provide a supportive and structured learning experience designed around your needs.

I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and pride myself on being reliable, approachable, and committed to helping every student reach their potential.

About the lesson

Every student is unique, so my lessons begin with understanding your individual goals, strengths, and learning needs. Whether you are preparing for exams, building confidence, catching up on missed learning, or aiming for higher grades, your objectives will always be at the centre of our work together.

I take a student-centred approach to tutoring. We will first establish clear, achievable goals and then discuss how you learn most effectively. Using this information, I create a personalised learning plan designed specifically for you. This plan is regularly reviewed and adapted to ensure that we remain focused on your progress and that the support I provide continues to meet your needs.

My teaching style is calm, supportive, and straightforward. I believe that students make the greatest progress when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and taking ownership of their learning. I am approachable, patient, and committed to helping every student develop both their mathematical understanding and their confidence.

Above all, I value reliability, clear communication, and a strong working partnership with every learner. Your goals become our shared goals, and I will work with you every step of the way to help you achieve them.

With over 23 years of teaching, mentoring, and tutoring experience, I have successfully supported learners of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to achieve their personal and academic goals.
