About Hazel
I’ve always enjoyed helping young people realize that they are capable of more than they think. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing a student go from saying, “I can’t do this,” to solving problems independently with confidence.
As a qualified secondary school teacher, I understand that every student learns differently. My aim is to create a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing a genuine understanding of the subject.
I particularly enjoy teaching mathematics because it often becomes a student’s favorite subject once they begin to understand it. I believe that with the right explanations, encouragement and practice, every student can make meaningful progress.
Whether a student is working towards passing a test, improving their grades or striving for top results, I enjoy helping them achieve their goals and build confidence that extends beyond the classroom.

Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit the individual. Whether a student needs support catching up, wants to build confidence, or is aiming for higher grades, I adapt my teaching style to meet their needs and learning goals.
My approach is to help students develop a genuine understanding of concepts rather than simply memorizing methods. I break challenging topics into manageable steps, explain concepts in a clear and relatable way, and use worked examples before guiding students through independent practice. I encourage students to ask questions and create a relaxed, supportive environment where they feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged for senior students preparing for assessments or exams. Each lesson begins with a brief review of previous learning before introducing new concepts, followed by guided practice and targeted questions to consolidate understanding. Where appropriate, I provide revision materials, practice questions and exam-style problems to reinforce learning between lessons.
I am a qualified secondary school teacher with a Bachelor of Science, Master of Education, and Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics. I also have math examiner experience and hold a current Working With Children Check. My classroom experience has given me a strong understanding of how students learn and the skills they need to succeed in assessments.
My goal is not only to improve grades but to help students become confident, independent learners who leave each lesson feeling more capable than when they arrived.
