It's true - everyone can sing! And you're no exception :)
First, we will engage in exercises to get you comfortable with the voice as an instrument. Singing is a very vulnerable activity, and it requires a lot of warming up to truly get comfortable expressing yourself.
We will then learn a brief overview of vocal anatomy, and become aware of how physical the voice really is as an instrument.
From there, we will work on 2 songs at a time. We will use supplementary exercises to help assist with the learning of these songs, and also use these songs as exercises to help strengthen your skills for future songs with similar attributes.
I have been singing in choirs all my life. Back in 2014, I was the co-leader of a small choir that performed seasonally. I was instrumental in repertoire selection and organizing practices.
Recently I have sung in the Hart House Jazz Choir, my own project the Paradigm Choir, and performed with the McGregor Carolers at venues all over the city.
I have taken voice instruction myself, both in school and as an extracurricular. As well, I have developed my own philosophy of what makes a vocal performance outstanding, and I am excited to share that with my future students.
Clarification: my classes are $40 for a 45-minute lesson. Longer and shorter times can be negotiated as well.

Excellent! Tara is really friendly and easy to talk to. She gave very constructive feedback and clear directions on how I should improve my singing. Would recommend
Tara is a fantastic tutor!! She helped me with calculus and trig and made them really easy to understand. The lessons are also really engaging, she can make any subject interesting!
Tara's firm foundation in theory, diverse range of musical experiences, and sensitive listening to her students combine to make her an excellent teacher. If you want to learn and to love making music while you do, Tara is a fantastic tutor.
Tara is not just whip-smart, but extremely creative. She is able to figure out where each person's roadblocks lie and tailor her teaching style accordingly. Tara will leave her mark on you not only as a student but as a person. You'll also have fun interacting with her. I recommend her highly.
