About Mu

Hello, I am GuoLaoshi, a bilingual speaker of Chinese and English with a genuine passion for language teaching. Holding a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature, an MSc in Advertising and Marketing, and a PGCE in Mandarin Chinese with EAL, my aim is to make a positive impact on people's lives through the joy of learning languages. I bring both expertise and dedication to my teaching. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching students from diverse socio-cultural and economic backgrounds, ranging from five-year-old primary school children to adults. My extensive experience across various educational settings - grammar schools, independent schools, community schools, academies, and more - has allowed me to refine my approach, tailoring lessons to meet the unique needs of each learner. I have been successfully teaching Chinese for years, helping my students achieve remarkable outcomes, including grade 9 in GCSE Mandarin; certificates in HSK 2, 3 & 4; first, second and third place awards in the UK nationwide Mandarin Speaking Competition. Teaching Chinese to learners and seeing them grow in their skills - whether for a specific examination, personal development, career advancement, or travel - is incredibly rewarding. I am confident in my ability to make a positive and lasting impact on your language learning journey.

I pride myself on being an effective, empathetic and dedicated teacher. In our one-to-one lessons, we'll focus on the specific skills you want to develop. Whether it's improving your pronunciation through accent reduction or enhancing your character recognition and writing skills. I pay close attention to the details of your Chinese - pronunciation, punctuation, natural expression, and everything involved in your language study - to ensure you express yourself clearly and effectively. With a patient and friendly teaching style, I am here to guide you through every step of your language journey. I am excited to meet you and look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
