I have known Jacob since spring 2018 as his instructor for Calculus III, Differential Equations, and an independent study on mathematical methods for physics. I am also Jacob’s academic advisor.

Jacob is a strong student. He is humorous, studious, and meticulous. Jacob was the top student in Calculus III and Differential Equations. His test scores were consistently high, as was his daily work. I was especially impressed by his work outside the classroom. Jacob was a regular at office hours. He demonstrated that he was not only interested in getting the right answer, but in being detail oriented and understanding the problem-solving process.

Based on his strong work inside the classroom, our department hired Jacob to be a student tutor for introductory mathematics and physics courses. A significant number of the students that Jacob mentors are first generation college students or come from a rural background (graduating high school class of 50 or less). Our students enjoy working with Jacob – he is effective at breaking down important ideas and patient with questions.
