About Gaurav

I scored a 99th percentile score on my SAT Maths.

I am currently pursuing Economics at New York University Abu Dhabi and have taken multiple advanced Maths courses.

I have previously worked as a Physics and Biology tutor to 4 high-school students who showed excellent improvement.

I love working with students and helping them understand complex topics by breaking them down into simpler concepts.

I have always loved to understand complex mathematical concepts fundamentally. I also love working with other people. Tutoring combines these two things that I absolutely love. Through tutoring, I get to interact with new students and help them break down intricate topics into simple concepts. It makes me very happy when I facilitate such understanding.

When I was a senior at my high school, a junior reached out to me to help him with Physics. However, he could not afford to pay me. I decided to help him out anyway and I realized that I absolutely loved the process.

After graduating, I took two years off, and for an entire year, I tutored 4 high-school students.

I have taken the SAT and have scored a 99th percentile score. I have also taken high-level mathematics courses at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Professionally, I have tutored Physics and Biology to 4 A-Level students.

About the lesson

1. Diagnostic Test: I have my students take a full-length SAT Maths test and then analyze the results to identify areas to focus on. Establishing such a baseline also helps to track improvement.

2. I list out the question variations for a given topic to be targeted. After explaining the concept very simply, I'll have the student solve every single variation so that they can tackle every single question pertaining to that topic.

3. I consistently receive feedback from the student to know if they are understanding, learning from their mistakes, and are comfortable around me and my process. If there is any hesitation, I adapt accordingly and tweak my style.

I have mostly worked with students that perform well below average. These students typically have a very weak foundation and hence, they do poorly. As somebody who loves to understand concepts fundamentally, I love the process of breaking these seemingly intricate topics into simpler ideas. Thus, I prefer working with such students because I find it very meaningful when I generate interest and understanding of the topic in these students.

Most tutors are qualified to teach but are unable to. Tutoring is about communication and understanding. Please hire a tutor that is willing to be patient with you and empathetic with your struggles. Likewise, do not hire somebody who makes you feel inadequate or is harsh towards you - learning should be a fun, happy, and exciting process.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
HONESTY:

Students need to be honest with the teachers. It is okay if they did not do the readings or completed the practice - we are just humans and humans slip sometimes. It is also okay if you did not understand the concept even after being taught the same thing 5 times - sometimes it takes longer and more effort. They should not hesitate to ask for help no matter what. Regardless of what the situation is, the student needs to be fully honest.
