About Anandita

I've always had a love for learning and teaching. I like to say I got started teaching when I was seven years old, teaching my grandfather in India how to speak English and even giving him homework to do! However, I officially started tutoring in 9th grade, when I would tutor students older than me in math because I was two years ahead of the standard 9th grade curriculum.

I have taken AP Biology, AP Physics I, AP English Language and Composition, AP World History, AP Calculus BC, AP Psychology, and AP Statistics, receiving an average score of 4.625 on the exams. I also received a 35/36 on my ACT and graduated as the valedictorian of my high school class. I have also received an A in all of my college courses so far, including Organismal Biology, Genetics, General Chemistry I, and Organic Chemistry I, resulting in a 4.0 undergraduate GPA.

Along with this, as I mentioned in my profile, I have been tutoring students of different age levels in a variety of subjects for over 5 years.

About the lesson

We start out with a completely free consultation where we discuss the student's current level in the subject they'd like to be tutored in and the goals they hope to accomplish and how they will be measured. In this consultation, we also discuss expectations the student has for the tutor and vice versa, along with logistical aspects such as the frequency of tutoring and price (which is negotiable due to our non-profit status).

The first lesson is also free and involves a short baseline assement of the student's understanding, which is then reviewed by the tutor and student. The tutor then explains any questions the student answered incorrectly and does mini-lessons on the topics. Then, a personalized plan and curriculum is developed for the student that clearly explains the order of the content being covered and the practice work that will be assigned for the student to do (if requested by the student).

I've worked with students of all ages, from 1st graders with ADHD to high schoolers learning trigonometry.

I think the best advice I would give is to never settle for a teacher who doesn't personalize their services to the students needs. In today's world, there are so many resources out there to learn and every student is different; nobody should have to settle for tutoring that doesn't fit their own needs. I would also highly suggest peer-to-peer tutoring services because I think we learn jsut as much, if not more, from our peers than official tutors who may be decades older than us.
