About Erin
I have been working as a tutor since I was a junior in high school, focusing on mathematic courses. I generally have a lot of success with students as they find me more approachable and less intimidating than their teachers, so they are comfortable asking any questions they need.
I understand how it is to be on the other side of things, where you're trying your hardest in a course but the grades just aren't reflecting that. I find it so rewarding being able to help these students grasp the material and getting to see their excitement as their grades slowly get better and better.
I got started with teaching as mathematics courses have always been some of my best subjects, and I'd often end up helping my friends. I found it very rewarding being able to see them grow confidence within the subjects, and decided to branch out by applying to be a tutor through my school.
I am currently a junior studying Civil Engineering, so a large part of my education focuses heavily on math.

When working with a new student I usually like to start by figuring out what type of learner they are. Some students benefit a lot from watching a problem being worked out step by step, while others benefit more from focusing on concepts. It's all about figuring out how the student learns best and adapting to fit them.
Currently, I work as a peer tutor at my university, so I have been teaching college-aged students. I also worked as a tutor in high school and have experience with younger students too.
I'd tell them to focus less on finding someone with the most impressive qualifications and more on finding someone whose teaching style complements them.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think students should think through what problems they run into at school, what can be done to create an environment where they will be comfortable learning, and most importantly what they are willing to share with their teacher.
