About Kate

I love teaching Latin and Math, and helping students reach their full potential. I have a BA from William and Mary and am applying for my MA in Classics/Latin. I have a minor in Mathematics. My goals are to give students the opportunity to learn in a helpful environment, and expand their knowledge of the ancient world.

I love teaching and learning about the ancient world. It allows us a glimpse into the past and the chance to learn about the people who lead to the modern world as we know it. There's nothing better than watching a student engage and understand material and then come up with new, thoughtful ideas about the past.

I have received a BA in Classics and minor in Mathematics from the College of William and Mary. I am continuing my education through a Post Baccalaureate program at William and Mary until May 2020. I have worked with kids of all ages as a summer camp counselor and assistant preschool teacher and teaching assistant at William and Mary.

About the lesson

I prefer to talk with the student about their goals for learning the subject. Then assess how the student performs on work, and discuss their learning style. After developing a plan and schedule with the student, I work with the student to reach our goal together.

Latin is a difficult langauge to master without practice, since there is no speaking component. It works best to practice a little everyday and communicate with your teacher how you think your lessons are going, and what may help you improve.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It can be difficult to self assess your skills, so try to determine what methods help you learn the best. What engages you with the material? If you needed to memorize a list, what would you do to remember it? But the most important question you should think about, is why do you want to learn? This will help you and your teacher focus in on your goals.

Details

My standard lesson is $25-30 an hour. I ask $25 for online lesson and $30 for in person session. If the student is late by more than 30 minutes, or cancels a lesson more than 3 times, I request a $10 cancelation fee.
