About Maya
Hey! My name is Maya. I'm a graduate student currently earning my Masters degree, and graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts and Sciences from New York University in 2018 for my time spent studying the History of the Arts, and the Liberal Arts at large. I am a scholar of the Humanities, with a focus on History, Literature, and Writing.
If you're a high school student, I'd like you to rest easy knowing that I've taken all of the AP courses corresponding to these subjects (my nickname was Hermione Granger), so trust me when I say that I've been there, done that, and have your back.
The pursuit of knowledge has always been my greatest passion, as is the act of sharing this knowledge with others. I like to keep things engaging, interesting, and fun. I'm looking forward to studying these wonderful subjects together!
I am currently in graduate school, earning my masters degree as I continue pursuing a higher education after my time spent earning a bachelors degree from NYU in 2018. I've always loved being a part of study groups, and found myself inherently drawn to helping fellow classmates whenever the support was needed. In light of the above, I began teaching as the next step for channeling this passion for learning and guiding others through this knowledge.
I earned my bachelor of the Arts and Sciences from New York University for my time spent studying the History of the Arts, also encompassing a study of the Liberal Arts and Humanities at large. I took all of the AP courses corresponding to History, Literature, and Writing in high school, so if you're a high school student looking for some extra guidance in that area, I've been there, done that, and have your back. In summary, I have an education in and a true passion for History, Literature, and Writing, and hope that this passion will be contagious as we study your chosen subject together.

Every person has a different style of learning, so I like to understand how a student would learn best so that I may provide the best delivery for lessons. I'm very passionate about what I'm teaching, so my hope is that my passion will shine through in a style that is informative but also engaging and fun!
My experience in working with others has always been through study groups and similar meetings, so I am very excited to be branching out into online tutoring both in the sense of living in the digital age, as well as the current global circumstances as a new "normal" has been established by the emergence of COVID-19.
An instructor can make or break an entire subject for a person. For the longest time, I thought I was terrible at math and simply not wired for it, as the information never seemed to stick. This persisted until my senior year of high school, when I had the BEST calculus teacher ever. His teaching style was passionate, engaged, visual, and approachable. For the first time, all of these concepts made sense, and I was actually enjoying each and every lesson. The only difference was that I had a wonderful teacher who truly cared about what he was teaching, and this changed everything for me. Bottom line, my advice to you is to find a teacher who not only knows their stuff, but knows how to teach it. Knowing a lot about a subject and knowing how to talk about it with another person and guide them through it are two entirely different things. Find someone whose teaching style meshes with your learning style. Find someone passionate and engaging. I promise, this will make the world of a difference in your studies.
While the state of the world is so complicated right now, there is also so much to be grateful for. I recently became an aunt to a precious newborn nephew, and having all of my work and school moved remotely has allowed me to spend more time with my family than I have been allowed to for a while.
