About Alicia

My name is Alicia. I have had the opportunity to dance in many different styles--modern, contemporary, classical ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, funk, and much more. I have briefly danced with Dramatic Truth Ballet Theater’s Company as an apprentice in Kansas City, Missouri. I am now a company dancer and rehearsal assistant with Georgetown Ballet's dance company; they performed The Nutcracker: Act Two for the Christmas 2018 season. I was privileged to dance in the Waltz of the Snowflakes, Russian, Mirliton/Dance of the Reed Flutes, and Waltz of the Flowers.

I have experience in teaching elementary-aged and middle school-aged students dance and have done so in China, the Middle East, and the United States. I have also been an assistant teacher in pointe work for Encore Dance Studio between September-October of 2012. I taught part time at North Shore Dance Academy; the classes I instructed were beginner ballet, beginner tap, beginner jazz, beginner/intermediate ballet, and pre-pointe/pointe.

I provide dance instruction under these genres:

Beginning to Intermediate Ballroom Dance, Christian Lyrical, and Musical Theater Dance

Beginner to Intermediate Level Jazz, Modern (Lester Horton and Martha Graham techniques), and Tap

Beginner to Pre-Professional Level Ballet, Pre-pointe, and Pointe (Cechetti, Chinese Classical, and Vagonava techniques)

An informal dance showcase (Nutcracker, Story Plot) will be planned for all students to participate at the end of each semester: Christmas and Spring Showcase

I am a former temporary secondary English Language Arts teacher and a current swim instructor. I am American Heart Association CPR/First Aid/AED certified and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited four-year-college.

I have been instructing students of all ages since 2005–Bible and English tutoring being my first experience. Some of the areas I have instructed students in are: Biblical Studies, Classical Ballet, English Language Arts, Hip Hop Dance, Jazz Dance, Mathematics, Musical Theatre Dance, Recreational Ballroom Dance, Swim Instruction, and Tap Dance.

I have been privileged to observe outstanding renown dance instructors teach as well as been taught by them. Such instructors are Mrs. Kathy Thibodeaux of Ballet Magnificat! and Mrs. Elizabeth Dimmel of Dramatic Truth Ballet Theatre.

About the lesson

Students who I teach for the first time is given an assessment placement class. This means that the first class they take will test their technique and vocabulary. New students will be provided a class syllabus to abide to at the beginning of each semester as well as class expectations in which I expect.

The classes offered are as described:

Beginner to Pre-Professional Level Ballet – Intensive ballet classes are offered for the serious dance student. Ballet teaches grace, balance, coordination, technique, and poise.

Beginner Hip-Hop – Learn the latest dance moves in this high-paced, fun-filled class! Dance to the energetic beat of the best hip-hop hits.

Beginner to Intermediate Jazz – This class focuses on jazz technique including jazz combinations, across the floor work, leaps, and turns.

Christian Lyrical/Contemporary – Students will learn combinations in the style of lyrical and contemporary dance. They will learn about worship dance and be given instruction on how to choreograph to beloved Christian worship tunes. These genres, Christian Lyrical/Contemporary, pull from the strong technical background of ballet while allowing for more freedom of movement and style.

Beginner to Intermediate Musical Theater Dance– This class combines singing and dancing. Students learn theater skills through the exploration of musical dances.

Pre-Pointe to Pointe – Teaches classical ballet technique on pointe shoes. This class is for our older students who are well advanced in ballet and requires teacher approval.

Beginner to Advanced Tap – This class teaches the fundamentals of tap dance for beginners and more intermediate tap steps and combinations for intermediate tap dancers.
