About Vanessa
I have a calm demeanor and am a patient teacher. My lessons will build your observational skills. I focus on teaching you how to translate color and light into a painting or drawing, as I believe these are two of the most imporant aesthetic choices.
I find teaching very rewarding and know that making art brings so much joy. I enjoy helping my students build their skills as well as confidence.
As someone who has been painting and drawing for over 25 years, I understand the equal importance of technical skills as well as the confidence to make creative work. My goal is to share some of the techniques I've learned, and to encourage you to grow as an artist.
I started teaching art to my friend's kids. After a while, this developed into teaching classes and workshops at local libraries and hosting a few painting events.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. I have taught multiple one on one as well as group classes to students at private homes and community centers.

In 2019 I was able to travel cross country and live out in Arizona for 3 months, spending time painting and drawing desert landscapes and cacti blooms!

Excellent! Vanessa is a wonderful teacher. She’s very patient and encouraging to beginners (like myself). I highly recommend her.
Perfect! Vanessa did a drawing crash-course my son to help prepare his college art portfolio. She taught him basic drawing principles, perspective, light and shadow, shading techniques, different media, and she really help him train his eye for form in observational drawings. His progress over three months is remarkable. She is a calm, knowledgeable teacher, and was able to connect well with my son. We are eternally grateful for her help and would highly recommend her as a art teacher.

Details
The initial meeting to dicuss projects and goals is free. After meeting you in person, I will develop a series of lesson plans. After this point, I charge at an hourly rate of $50/hour.
If you live more than 10 miles from my home in Worcester, MA, I will charge for travel time as well.
I am happy to obtain and share my art supplies. If you'd like to take advantage of this option, please let me know and I can order supplies for you. You will pay for the supplies and any shipping. If you'd rather use your own supplies, that's fine too.
