About Emily

A unique place in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area offering drawing and painting courses. We also provide painting parties as needed for groups of up to 16. Group dates, team building co-workers, and youth activities groups have all enjoyed the open and inviting atmosphere.

Our instructors have degrees in Illustration and Animation. We promote growing relationships and talents through creativity.

It's satisfying to see the light turn on in someone's eyes as they begin to understand how to process what they see into something they can create. There are tips and tools I share that help speed up this journey. Helping students value each step of the process as they go helps them gain the satisfaction of creation as they go, not just when they are finished. It is this type of joy that has carried me through my own schooling and professional work.

My husband and I found a large building that had been vacant for a decade. It afforded enough space for both of us to operate our separate businesses. On my wing, I had enough space for not only my personal studio, but large classes as well as a separate room for small children's classes. Truly, I was just ready to do it once we found a suitable location.

I have a Bachelors of Fine Art (BFA) in Illustration from BYU. In addition to that I have studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. I have been mentored by Masterful artists of my day as well as have studied and copied Masters works from the past. I continue to refine my skill and knowledge with each painting I pursue. I have worked professionally as an artist for 20 years, and have competed in several shows. My work has also been published in books. I started The Sage Brush Art School in 2019.

About the lesson

Making sure the student has a solid understanding of elements and principles of art is the first step. Knowing that we both understand these timeless principles (Line, Form, Pattern, Color, Texture, etc) means that we can communicate about them as we refine each piece of art. The flow of teaching is set and moves forward at the rate at which the student grasps and applies these concepts.

I have worked with students from ages 3yrs to 63yrs. They have come from all backgrounds and talent ranges.

Look for someone who is constantly working on and improving their own art. That is the mindset you want to emulate as you learn so that when classes are over, you still continue growing and building on what you've been taught.

We often hold painting parties for a variety of reasons. People reach out to me with great ideas and we have come together with an unforgettable experience. Recently, we had a group of teenagers who had a school dance/date. They decided to do their paintings in the daytime before they got dressed up. They were so fun and eager to try it out. They each left with their own painting (same theme as the dance) as well as big smiles on their faces.

My price range varies, depending on class (Basic Drawing and Painting, Oil Painting, Plein Air Painting). For beginning group classes the price is about $13/class. The price goes up from there for Oil painting and plein air as those require more individual attention and instruction.
