About Paula
I’ve had extensive training in the medium of acrylic and oil painting for the past 4 years and have been drawing and painting on my own accord my whole life. I have a deep understanding of how drawing is the foundation of painting (and even sculpting), and how developing observational skills by drawing from observation will drastically improve drawings and then paintings.
I teach drawing, and I teach both abstract and representational painting. Abstraction is more of a meditative exercise of subtly tuning in to the subconscious and channeling (even though it may not feel this way at all at first). Representational art is more about developing the skill to render real-world objects and the process can also become meditative.
I’ve learned a lot from the rigor of the university setting. I graduate with my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in December 2019.
I am keen on stressing the importance of safety procedures when working with paint mediums, as well as proper clean-up and storage procedures to extend the life of your brushes and supplies.

I love passing on my knowledge to students who are genuinely interested in learning and excited to make art because it has profoundly enriched my own life in so many ways, and it may just do the same for someone else eventually. I enjoy watching students learn patience and discipline, as most great skills cannot be perfected with just a few minutes of practice.
I have been a volunteer art teacher at Doral Conservatory & Arts since I was in middle school until I was in high school. I would lead free little drawing classes for my friends early in my college career.
I’ve been an undergraduate student studying fine arts and will be graduating in December 2019. I’ve attended an art residency in New York City (July 2019). I attended an art magnet high school (2015-2011), I was a volunteer art teacher at an art academy for students ages 6-12 (2010-2012). And I’ve been making art on my own accord almost my whole life.

I’d first want to get to know my students skill level and what kind of painting or drawing they want to learn so I can start them off with an appropriate lesson. I want to know if students have any goals in particular and we could set up a lesson plan for that.
I have worked with beginners and intermediate level students.
I would look for a teacher who is passionate about art themselves. A teacher who is able to show you their own artwork so that you have proof of their level of expertise and involvement in the practice. A teacher who emphasizes safety and clean-up procedures.
