About Michelle

Michelle is a figurative painter who specializes in Portraiture. She received her BFA from NYU in 2011 after being selected by Elizabeth Murray as the winner of a four-year scholarship. While there, she was awarded a first place scholarship in painting by the Martin Wong Foundation. She studied with Ross Bleckner, Maureen Gallace, and spent her weekends at the Art Student’s League. She spent the next three years learning classical methods of realism with Jacob Collins at the Grand Central Atelier. Michelle won a first place, Richard C. Pionk Memorial Award at the Salmagundi Club and was selected to be a copyist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she had the rare opportunity to copy a Rembrandt Self Portrait. Her work was included in Poly International's first American Contemporary Art auction in China. She has exhibited in Manhattan and Long Island and continues creating work for her collectors.

In addition to her studio practice, Michelle has taught at the Nassau County Museum Of Art, as the Art League of Long Island’s Portfolio Specialist, and as an adjunct professor at Concordia College. Her rare teaching style challenges conventions and is constantly evolving. Michelle has accumulated a vast breadth of knowledge over the years and continues to develop unique methods that she generously shares with students. She is known for making students feel comfortable regardless of their experience and for enriching lessons with poetic depth.

I love seeing my students grow in their confidence and self-esteem. I'm always amazed at how much every person can bring to art. I love identifying the qualities that make each student unique and giving them a way to share their individuality. There are countless styles and approaches - everyone can say something that speaks to us. Students feel liberated when they are able to express themselves confidently. Art creation brings genuine joy and catharsis to all who try it.

I've been teaching art since 2009 and have been expanding my practice as I grow in my art and teaching. I started teaching high school students, then adults, children, and college students.

BFA in Studio Art from NYU

Spent years training in the classical methods of the Old Masters in NYC at the Grand Central Atelier.

Studied with well known abstract and realist painters who are highly respected in the field. (Ross Bleckner, Jacob Collins)

I worked at NYU's art admissions department for four years - I know how to prepare a winning student portfolio.

I taught at a respected museum and college in New York.

I tailor my lessons to the individual.

I work with students of all ages and skill levels. Many of my students have been taking art lessons for years and didn't realize how much they were missing until starting lessons with me.

I work with professional established and emerging artists who seek guidance to broaden their thinking and sharpen their skills.

I work with precocious children and teens who are serious about pursuing art in their career.

Beginners who are nervous and intimidated love working with me because I make it so comfortable and interesting.

College students find me invigorating, relatable, and fun.
