About Ethan

I have experience in almost every kind of essay writing and English subject dating back to my own days in high school. I was a writing tutor as an undergraduate for incoming freshmen at my university, helping them on content, organization, prose, and establishing their own voice. I composed a "Senior Honors Thesis" my senior year of college, giving me a wealth of experience in composing longer written pieces as well as with research. As a current law student, I've received high marks in memo writing and am composing yet another thesis. When it comes to writing, you won't find a more seasoned tutor.

As for English literature and test preparation, if you're reading it for class, chances are I've read it more than once! While my "degree track" in college was for Writing and Rhetorical Studies, such studies also required countless classes in literature and deep dives into authors.

My service attacks the writing process from each of these different angles, allowing students to grow their understanding of writing while also gaining valuable writing skills.

As a tutor during my undergraduate and high school years, there wasn't a type of student I did not deal with: I helped those who struggled mightily with their writing, those who had trouble brainstorming ideas, and even students who felt confident in their essays but wanted to get even better. I enjoy guiding students along their writing journey as they find their voice; we all have one, and I believe it is my job to help you find it AND believe in it!

About the lesson

I believe the most important thing when beginning work with a new student is establishing the student's goals, current strengths, and current weaknesses. From there, getting to know the student's tendencies as a writer and reader helps me establish where there confidence levels are at regarding their skills. Does the student enjoy writing? Does the student struggle to get their ideas on paper? Does the student struggle with grammar, organization, or content? More than anything, establishing a friendly connection with the student and a bond of trust helps more than anything in terms of allowing them to excel under my tutelage.
