About Sara Katie

Language Arts can be hard! That's why I am here to make it fun and help you succeed in a calm, loving environment. How do I know it can be such a struggle? I was born at 25 weeks and because of it, I had a very difficult time learning and excelling. Through a lot of hard work, determination, and help, I excelled in all subjects including Language Arts. I went on to graduate from Concordia University-Portland with an English Degree in Spring of 2020.

I found my love of helping children while student teaching and volunteering at Clackamas High School. Before I graduated, I was able to help a student with Autism, double his reading scores in only three months. I then went on to complete my Senior Practicum at Happy Valley Preschool. After, I was able to help teach kindergarten through an online format for a few months, which was so rewarding!

I know how hard it can be to struggle. My hope is to help you go from struggling to enjoying and thriving. I will help you achieve that by determining what it is you need help on and breaking everything up into small, manageable steps. It can be overwhelming but it does not have to stay that way. I want to help you see that mistakes aren't a bad thing; they are an opportunity to grow. I am here to support you and your child, no matter their age, while working on everything from essays, grammar, correct punctuation, literary concepts, MLA/APA format to learning how to read and write for young children.

I found my love of teaching when I first started volunteering at Clackamas High School! It was such a joy to work with the students and help them grow in their writing,

About the lesson

Let's talk! I want to know about your struggles and talk about where you eventually want to be. I would then like to create a plan, find out what interests you, and figure out a way to incorporate your interests into our work together. Writing is so much more than getting a grade! It's an expression of you and the things you care most about.

I have worked with all ages from kindergarten to high school. I also have experience working with children with Autism.

Make sure that they can offer you what you need and that you feel like you would work well together. I know it can be difficult to tell from a simple application but try your best!

While helping teach kindergarten, a little girl finally gained the confidence to start spelling on her own. It such a big moment for her and it made me smile.
