About Nina

Hello! I am a new first grade teacher with a passion for helping students of all ages reach their own personal potential. Through one on one attention I can help you identify your strengths and identify areas of growth! I am willing to help younger kids in any subject and for older students my areas of strength are English, creative writing, essay writing/editing, ESL support, and French! I prefer to do online tutoring but am also open to traveling to students in the Houston area. Reach out and say hello to get started today!

I feel like I've been teaching my whole life! From a young age I nannied and loved providing homework help. When I lived in France I tutored students in English. Working at Casa de Esperanza I taught littles all day every day and loved it. And this will be my first year teaching at last in a formal school setting!

I am currently enrolled in a Masters of Arts in teaching program with a focus on early childhood education. I also will be working full time this year as a first grade teacher. But I am open to tutoring students of all ages!

I speak French fluently at the ILR4+ level, having attended the Middlebury Monterey Summer Immersion Language Academy and completed part of my high school education abroad in a French high school.

I received my bachelors degree from King's College London in Global Health and therefore have a strong background in social science research and writing. Beyond this I have a personal love for creative and essay writing that I love to share.

I worked for one year at Casa de Esperanza, a residential foster home for children under 5 years old, where I focused on early childhood development and early literacy skills. I have a special passion for helping kids catch up developmentally to their peers and get a strong start in school.

About the lesson

My process is individualized based on your needs. Even if we intend on doing mostly online sessions I would be happy to meet with you in person initially so we can get to know each other and make a game plan. I will want to hear about the student's challenges, goals, and learning style so that we can make a plan and get started!

I have worked extensively with elementary and pre-school aged children. I have also provided homework help for preteens which I also love! In addition I have some experience working with students with different developmental challenges and abilities. I would never claim to be an expert on working with neurodivergent or differently abled students but I will say that I am absolutely open to getting to know each student and their individual needs and strengths. And I can't wait to learn from you all too!

I would say to hire someone that you think you would like spending time with! I've had lots of amazing tutors in my own life and I feel like the ones I was able to learn the most from were the ones I liked and admired the most. I looked forward to our sessions and wanted to make them proud.

I recently went on a road-trip from Houston to Minnesota and back down again! I love traveling and thinking and dreaming and reading and writing along the way.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would say to think about your challenges but also think about your strengths. Are you struggling in English class because you are more of a visual learner? Are you struggling to get your homework done every night because soccer is your greatest talent and something you want to make sure to prioritize in your schedule? I would say be honest with yourself and your teacher about your strengths and goals and capabilities and that will allow your teacher to make a realistic plan to get you where you need to go!
