About Theodore

As a magnet school principal ranked as a top 100 public school in the State of NJ for the past five years, I understand how high expectations and rigorius instruction can influence a student's self confidence. I will ensure that my mentees believe in a "growth midset," are able to analyze data to see real time growth after instructional sessions, and are a critical component when developing academic goals to achieve success in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and/or social studies.

I began "teaching" younger students as a mentor during a summer program offered within district. Once I realized the impact I could have assisting those within my community, I worked hard to attain my teacher certification and become a full-time teacher of the social studies.

I have worked as a social studies teacher, language arts instructional coach, instructional supervisor, vice principal, and principal in a K-8 setting.

About the lesson

My first step is to acquire information into the mentee's interests, hobbies, and positive/negative experiences in their current/past academic setting.

After a rapport is built, I will then review any data I have available to detemine what the current academic hurdles are from a quantitative perspective, inquire with both mentee and parent to see what challenges are articuulated, and then develop a step by step plan to increase performance in an instructional component of need.

I have worked with students from Kindergarten through Twelfth grade.

Comfort is key. If you feel like you cannot take instructional risks within the time you scheduled with your tutor, look for another.
