About Gordon
Lessons for guitar: Classical, Jazz, flamenco and more. Studios in Jackson, San Andreas and Mokelumne Hill. Taught at College of Idaho and TVC College in Ontario Oregon. Offering a package for starters including guitar, tuner and method book.
$120 per month for weekly half hour lessons.
When in high school private lessons were my only source of guitar knowledge. Most of my students were friends and I was only familiar with rock and roll, and a bit of jazz. I blush at the thought of calling it teaching.
When I attended Boise state I majored in guitar performance. My teacher refered students to me at the local music store. Eventually I was refered to the College of Idaho to teach applied lessons and beginning folk guitar. The chairman of the department refered me to Treasure Valley Community College where I taught applied lessons as well.
I majored in guitar performance. I have taught masters's classes at both University of Oregan and University of Idaho. I have performed many styles and published books on theory and sight reading.

A combination of technique, sight-reading and fun. I like to suggest 10 minutes a day practice the first week, 20 the second week, and 30 tops from then on out. To practice is to aquire new skills. Students may feel clumsey at first, but as they fill up a reservior of skills the fun and satisfaction begins and this escalates learning and pleasure.
I've worked with a wide range of students, because I've played with musicains of many styles. From Jazz, western and rock groups; to flamenco and classical groups. From camp fires to large auditoriums, from woodsheds to amphatheaters, every person has a prefered style, and it may change as the musician evolves. A good teacher will both follow your changing interests and keep you from a tangent that would waste your time.
Try to hear a public performance or at least see a video of your perspective teacher. Ask him/her to sight read a simple piece of music and ask to hear a chord, arpeggio, and scale. He/she should be able to explain the formula of each.
I was invited to play a duet concert in Alaska. The job included a house concert as well as a larger performance. We were confident in our playing as we had just finished a CD of our duets. The performances were great fun, but were topped by the charter fishing where we cought salmon and halabit. We returned with flash frozen fish and a recipe for cocnut crusted halabit.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Buy a guitar AFTER you speak to your teacher. Many bring in an unplayable guitar that's pretty to look at, so make sure the teacher can make minor adjustments on your guitar and refer you to a qualified luthier for more serious repairs.
The first few lessons are more work than pleasure. You should as yourself if you can sustain your routine long enough to reach your first glorious breakthrough.
