About Jon

The Reiser Music Studio provides professional quality lessons for guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. The instructor is a state of Wisconsin certified music educator. Certifications include general, choral, and instrumental music. Experience includes 13+ years in public schools, and 20+ years teaching private lessons in churches, homes, and Henri's Music Oshkosh. Here at the Reiser Music Studio students are taught the language of music in order to foster musical independence. All common styles are covered, the curricullum is comprhensive and sequential.

As a teacher, I never get tired of working with students and seeing progress. I am completely addicted to the process of preparing, presenting, and reinforcing musical knowledge and skills. Putting all pleasentries aside, learning to play a musical instrument is truly a monumental task. Practicing is an art in itself. My job is to be that person who manages your efforts in order to keep you on a path for success. What I love about what I do is that I never know exactly how a lesson will unfold. We tackle the music as a team. We face the challenges without fear, we keep things real, and we move at your pace.

I found myself giving lessons in high school as part of our community service requirement for graduation. That was the time I learned I had a passion for sharing what I know about learning to play an instrument.

I am a professional educator with state certifications in general, choral, and instrumental music.

About the lesson

We meet, we assess where you're at, and we use age appropriate, time tested, top notch method books to teach you the language of music.

My training and abilities focus on ages 6 through young adult. I accept adults on a limited basis. With the youngest students I often incorporate a teaching method I learned at Silver Lake College called the Kodaly method.

I am baised in this answer, but I want people to understand I am an academic type. If you only want to learn a specific style and do not wish to learn to read music, I am NOT your best fit. My goals are to teach the language of music and foster musical independence so that you will be able to tackle musical challenges without assistance. I provide the tools you will need to become a life-long learner of music. Here at the Reiser Music Studio you learn how to practice, you learn music theory, all the common musical styles, as well as technique, and how to play with others.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think people humbly accept this, but many people come with, one might say, unrealistic goals. Often people want to learn this or that song. That's all good and fine, but 90% of the time, for most individuals, it's not about learning a specific song but rather learning all the skills and knowledge that allows you to play a specific song. You can liken it to speaking a foreign language. You may know how to ask for a pencil in Spanish, but that won't allow you functionally communicate with people in Mexico. If you really want to learn to play it's important to understand it's a journey filled with unexpected tidbits of knowledge, experience, and skills that eventually add up to you being able to learn your favorite tunes and songs. You teacher's job is sometimes to first help students fully appreciate that. Then we act as your guide in the journey to musical independence.
