About Aaron
My goal is to give people a greater understanding of how they can express themselves through music. Students will learn how to apply the fundamentals of music theory and practice to their own musical interests. Lessons are designed to give each individual student practical and flexibly paced ways to become well rounded musicians that can easily adapt to the different forms of musical language. Students will learn to play songs, read music and create music all at their own pace while having fun with the process!
Since 2014, I've been consistently teaching guitar, ukulele and bass guitar to students at studios around the island of Oahu and online, as well as teaching grades K-6 at Pearl City Highlands Elementary School for the school year of 2019-2020. I've met so many people of different ages and different backgrounds along the way. I really enjoy the challenge of helping students find their personal path of learning music, and discovering how to use music in ways that mean most to them. I enjoy creating a safe space for students to grow musically and creatively, as well as building meaningful relationships with my students and helping them to exceed their expectations of themselves.

First, I like to find out how long the student has been playing, if they've played any instruments before, etc. I like to get a feel of what kind of music they listen to, what their goals as a musician are, and what music means to them. Then I find out what level the student is at and introduce and apply new musical concepts from there.
Typically, I like to keep half the lesson focused on furthering the students technical abilities with scales, fundamental rhythm practice, coordinating their switches, etc., then the second half is all about applying the concepts to the songs the student would like to play. There are always ways to simplify a song to fit the level of the student. On the other hand, there are also ways to spice up a piece of music and find what a student is capable of expressing with the piece beyond what's written out for the material they've learned.
