About Noaa
I'm a Berklee College of Music alum who has played everything from jazz and choro to bluegrass and punk rock. I travel fairly constantly playing gigs (largely in bluegrass and country acts) and teaching. I have played in various capacities alongside Andy Mckee, Alex Degrassi, Rx Bandits, Agent Orange, Michael Manring, Jeff Titus, and Michael Gulezian among others. Currently I'm playing solo, with my group the Nowhere Family Band, and with country singer Margo Cilker. I have been teaching privately and at schools for more than five years, largely in the Bay Area in California. In addition to Berklee, I've spent time studying at the California Jazz Conservatory and the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music.
I've taught all ages and skill levels in all styles. In learning music, I place the most value on enjoyment and interest - my job is to find out what you like, not what I'd like you to like, and give you the tools to be able to do that better.
I'm interested in not just providing knowledge, but helping facilitate people's capacity to discover, self-assess, and ultimately tap into their own innate musicality. I teach to the unique goals of the student and reinforce traditional concepts through a range of contemporary idioms. Students come to me for my diverse stylistic background, my ability to render curriculum accessible and fun based on the strengths and interests of the individual, and for my focus on the cultivation of awareness and healthy, compassionate internal orientation towards practice.

I have always done it casusally but began teaching in college for extra money and found I love it.
I've taught in afterschool programs and community centers with rowdy 4 year olds and shy 60 year olds. I'd love to get to know you and learn how you learn.

We talk and I figure out what music you're interested and what skill level you're at. Then we use playing songs as our framework. I believe in technique as a means to an end, not an end unto itself - which means I'm going to help your technique in a way that's fun and applicable immediately.
