About Derek
I give my students the tools they need to do what THEY want to do with music. With over 30 years of experience teaching all instruments and voice, I know music and I know student types and I know how to get results. Most of all, I make learning music FUN. Bachelor's of Music - Texas Tech University, 1993. Specialization in Instrumental, Vocal, Composition, Performance, and Children's Music.
I play and teach all instruments except banjo and bagpipes.
I have 30 years experience teaching music in public school and privately to all ages.

First things first. Get in the student's head and figure out how it works. Q & A time. What are their tastes, their influences, their goals, and their learning styles? Do they need to see it, to hear it, to manipulate it, or some combination of these? What do they already know? Any good habits to build on or bad habits to correct? Once I know these answers, I can customize a successful plan of action.
