About James

I recently graduated with my M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development. I am passionate about history and social studies and my unique educational philosophy centers around critical thinking skills in an approach that makes them applicable beyond the history classroom. With a B.A. in History from Boston College as well, my deep wealth of history knowledge, creative teaching (including one-on-one) methods that cater to the needs of the students first and foremost, and reliability are each crucial parts of my services.

I recently just finished a semester of full-time student teaching in Fall 2019. There I was able to work with individually with students who requested extra support in the classroom. This experience opened my eyes to the sheer variety of learners in classrooms and, with individualized attention, I was able to help several students who struggled at the beginning of the semester succeed by the end of my time there. I put extra emphasis in understanding how the students learns in order to best help them because the "one-size-fits-all" approach in the history/ social studies classroom can leave many students behind, unengaged, or uninterested.

Though I can help history/ social studies students of varying grades, levels, and courses, my expertise includes: World History, European History, American History, Geography, history essay writing, and history study skills. Writing more generally is another strength that I can confidently say I can help any student with.

I was incredibly successful as both as an undergraduate (graduate cum laude) and M.Ed. (graduated with 3.97 GPA). My most unique accomplishment was when I received the Harry Doyle Award during my undergraduate graduation. The Harry Doyle Award is a Boston College award for "outstanding achievement and a commitment to excellence in the fine arts or humanities".
