About Kristen
A little about us...
Here at Z-Ultimate, we are empowering men, women and children through our classical, practical and tactical self defense system.
To help you get started with Z-Ultimate and make sure we are a good fit for you and your family, we put together this guide to help you learn more about who we are, what makes us different and what we can do for you.
If you find out we are a good fit, you will be given the opportunity to take advantage of a Free Two Week Test Drive – Two Weeks of Private and Group Classes – No Cost, No Obligation.
Choosing The Right Dojo Is The #1 Key To Success In You or Your Child's Training
Self defense and martial arts training is one of the best things you can do for yourself or your child. The key ingredient to picking a dojo is this: are they a good fit for YOU?
A good school will be able to customize their program to fit you or your child's needs, goals, age and abilities. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, you want the dojo to be able to fit their program around you, instead of making you fit into what they do. Let’s see how Z-Ultimate is the perfect school for you and your family.
Our Ultimate Kenpo System
Z-Ultimate specializes in age-specific, world-class personalized instruction using our system of Ultimate Kenpo. Our style takes the “best of the best” from Karate, Kung Fu and Jiujitsu and combines them into an Classical – Practical – Tactical method of self defense that is easily adaptable to any body style.
From Karate – a term that groups together most of the Japanese-based “hard” striking styles – we get the linear, power-based stances, footwork and techniques. These styles are known for their simplicity of movement and emphasis on physical strength.
From Kung Fu – a term that literally means, “to be proficient in” and groups together many of the Chinese-based “soft” styles – we get the circular movement, footwork and techniques that avoiding matching power with an opponent. These styles are known for the circular, deflecting movements and techniques and are designed for a smaller person to use against a larger opponent.
From Jiujitsu – a term that groups in the Japanese-based grappling or ground fighting arts – we get the trips, tackles and take downs as well as standing defenses against grabs, chokes and weapon attacks. These styles are also known for joint manipulation – like wrist locks and arm bars – as well as various chokes, strangles, breaks and controlling techniques.
By taking the best from each style and blending them together, you get a system that prepares you to defend yourself in almost any situation, regardless of your size or the size of your opponent. It also allows us to train you in techniques that are the best fit for your body style.
What I enjoy about what we do and teach is the impact it has. Whether it is an adult who has fallen in love with being active again, or a child who learns what it means to have self-respect, confidence, and humility... the change is incredible. At Z-Ultimate we don't just focus on the martial arts, but the person. Our program is designed and catered to fit you as an individual.
I started teaching because of the impact that martial arts had on my life. I started as a kid, and the discipline, humility, and respect it taught me, changed my life. I wanted to be a part of that journey for others. I am passionate about the proven advantages that martial arts gives to people.
I have been training in the martial arts for 16 years and have been teaching full time for 6 years. I am a certified instructor through the University of Martial Arts Professionals. I currently hold the rank of 2nd degree black belt.

First we sit down and find out what that person or child is looking to get out of the martial arts. We are private instruction based company, so we gear our lessons around that. Next, we would start the private lesson and focus on what that individual needs.
We have worked with every skill level, age, body type, and limitation. Because we are private instruction based, we can go at a pace to fit each person. We work with students who have developmental, mental, and physical disabilities. We have experience in teaching blind and deaf students, as well as students with cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. We have also trained students diagnosed with autism, as well as kids with ADHD and bipolar disorder. All of our instructors have been professionally trained to help coach and teach such students. We have never met someone that we couldn't train in the martial arts.
Many martial arts schools out there only have group classes. This isn't bad, however students can be overlooked in a large group of people. At Z-Ultimate we have both group and private instruction to ensure that each student is getting what they need. Make sure if you are finding a teacher, that they are willing to customize a program to fit you. Too many martial arts programs are very cookie cutter, and don't allow for personalized instruction.
When a parent came up to me and said, "Since our daughter has been training with Z-Ultimate, I have never seen her so confident and sure of herself. Z-Ultimate has changed her life."
The student she was talking about has been training with us for the past year and came in very shy and lacked confidence. She could barely look us in the eye. Now she is thriving and doing well in all aspects. That is why I love what we do.

When I first walked through the doors, I initially picked up on the clean, professional, and welcoming environment (much different than other martial arts studios I have been to). Throughout the two years I’ve trained here, that environment has not only been maintained but exceeded all expectations. Kristen (chief instructor) and her staff are experts in their craft. I’ve gained both a valuable skill set and confidence thanks to their investment in me as a student and I have had plenty of great workouts along the way. The training here is better and more efficient than any hand-to-hand combat training I’ve received in the military as a US Marine . I’m currently away for a temporary training assignment but look forward to continueing my martial arts journey with Zultimate Castle Rock as soon as I return. Kristen’s people skills are impeccable and she can train both children and adults with skill and precision.
This place is amazing for learning martial arts in an amazing environment. I love how amazing the staff is.
ZUltimate in Castle Rock is not some institutionalized karate dojo but one that is a down to earth, fun yet formal enough to learn and practice. Instead of rote learning we're taught karate as an art, as an exercise and as applied to real life. In just 5 months, I have noticed a marked improvement in my balance, speed and flexibility. I am looking forward to getting my son involved!
I've been training here for years! The value of this program is well worth the money. I'm not the kind of person who never liked going to the gym, but I love coming here! It's awesome knowing that I'm acquiring a skill AND getting a good workout! This is also the kind of place where ANYONE is welcome! I love my Z family!
I have been doing karate at Zultimate for 1 1/2 years now. I want to encourage everyone to do this. Sinsei Kristen is the best. I want to emphasize how helpful this is for people who are a little older. I am almost 60 years old and karate helps so much with directionality for brain fog and for those who may have similar limitations. It is really good exercise and I have always felt encouraged by higher ranking people in the group classes. The characteristics of this form of martial arts are all things we should aspire to including humility and respect. Give it a try. You won’t be disappointed!
Our son transferred to this Dojo after we relocated to the area. We couldn’t be happier!! Our son is learning respect and humility and is excited about what he is learning!! He comes home every
Night after karate and shows us his new combinations and strikes. Great dojo and great Senseis!!I have been doing Z-Ultimate Self Defense for a year now and love it. Z-Ultimate Karate is unique and challenges all ages, teaching discipline and control. It has helped me not only to strengthen my memory and loose weight but also with my confidence. It is extremely empowering and freeing to know you can defend yourself in any negative situation that may come, especially as a woman. I can not speak more highly of Sensei Kristen. She is such a fun teacher and can cater to many different learning forms. Group classes are the best and I love the mutual respect everyone has for each other no matter their belt rank. I first tried one of Kristen’s women’s self defense classes and I have continued ever since. I highly recommend Z-Ultimate for any age, especially children.
They are like family. Great experience for kids and adults! Would not recommend any other place for martial arts!
Z Ultimate has given my granddaughter the confidence she needs for every day challenges. Prior to karate, she would cry just walking into a room with strange faces, now she can walk in with a smile, confident in who she is. Z-Ultimate is not just about teaching self-defense, they address core values and get to know every student on a personal level.
Z-Ultimate Castle Rock has been amazing for our family. We have 2 boys who have been training at the Castle Rock dojo for almost 5 years. Group classes, private lessons, testing, tournaments, and seminars all provide different and valuable learning experiences. The flexibility to train at any of the Z-Ultimate dojos has been an added bonus! The boys have worked with the Z-Ultimate community from all over Colorado and many of the instructors and other students have become like family to us all. I highly recommend them!
My 4 yearold daughter Maycee has been attending Z Ultimate since this past august and she loves it! I have seen such a difference in her behavior and attitude. All the instructors are very patient and supportive! I would definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking for a fun and energetic environment.
Our daughter looks forward to her private lesson with the amazing "Kristen" (head instructor) every Friday after school, followed by the group class! The emphasis on respect for country and family throughout the lessons is an added bonus! Love this place!!!
Z-Ultimate in Castle Rock is a top notch venue for kids of all ages to learn martial arts. My seven year old son loves the private lessons and group classes and I can't help but take note of his increased self-confidence. In addition to the core physical aspects of their craft, Kristen and the other sensei focus on discipline, respect and humility, ensuring that students also learn and appreciate the core values of martial arts.
My daughters and I began training a few months ago and we have been empowered, disciplined and overall felt an amazing sense of improved self worth. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is looking for exercise, self defense, or just to learn martial arts in a fun environment! You won’t regret it!! Just do it!!!:)
I have been training at Z-Ultimate Castle Rock for almost 10 years. The quality of the instruction is superior. My training keeps me in shape and it provides me the skills and confidence to be able to defend myself. I have made great friends and I have reached a lot of personal bests. This martial arts training is worth the time and the investment.
My 4yo started lessons here about a month ago and he LOVES it! Kristin is so good with him and he’s learning so quickly. She focuses a lot on his behavior outside of the studio as well which has been amazing. Highly recommend.
Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, Value
I joined to support my son, but stayed (4+ years now) for so many reasons: a break from the family and responsibility, great exercise, interesting and surprisingly fun, and (as a bonus) now I feel confident that I could defend myself and my kids (and my husband :) ) if ever needed. As a mother never remotely interested in martial arts, I continue to be surprised at how much I enjoy Kenpo Karate. Sensei Kristin is extremely competent in her martial arts and is an excellent instructor. The community at the Castle Rock dojo is very supportive. You won't regret joining the dojo!Sensei Kristen is a talented martial artist and has the ability to adapt to her student’s way of learning. In my particular case, being rather slow of mind and possessing rather uninhibited violent tendencies (i.e. not realizing how hard I hit someone) I’m certain I presented a difficult challenge as a student. Sensei Kristen was always patient (I think, perhaps she recalls something different) in her tutelage. I also appreciated her fine-tuned approach to instruction. Where a hand was placed exactly and at what angle were sometimes difficult, but important, attributes for me to grasp. My motor skills were much coarser than most and originally my goal was not to hit an object at a certain point, but just to destroy the object with great power. Of course, a really good martial artist doesn’t really need the force, technique and exactitude are more important. These things I learned from Sensei Kristen and I certainly appreciated my time with her.
I would like to express how exciting of an experience we have had here at Z Ultimate dojo. Our son, who is 6 years old, and myself love the studio and all senseis are amazing!!! They give an extraordinary dedication and motivation to the class which helps to continue loving martial arts!!!!
This is the best studio for great instruction. Very qualified instructors who really know their craft.
This place is great. My 6 year old LOVES it. I have a background in martial arts and the training here is awesome. They have one on one and group classes and our son does both. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone.
This is one of the absolute best self defense studios for both kids and adults that I have seen. The focus is not just on developing the form but on the whole person. The head of the dojo also has expertise dealing with students dealing with chronic pain and injuries. Highly recommended.
I am a 55 year old old man that hated the gym. When asked what I wanted from Z Ultimate, I said, I need to work on my flexibility and to sweat..... a lot! 20 lbs later and in the best shape of my life (100 push ups are easy!), I attribute all of it to Z Ultimate! And, the most amazing Sensei Kristen! Thank you so much Sensai!
Z Ultimate has been a game changer for our son! Focus, discipline, respect have developed quickly and all from the tutelage and leadership at Greenwood Village!!!
My son and I have been going here for more than 3 months. Kristen, the Dojo owner, is an amazing instructor, and really good at tailoring group classes so that differing ranks can learn together, and from each other. I have already learned constructive self-defense techniques that I could use, and I love the sparring. The other students are friendly which made me feel comfortable right away.
The instructors, Kristen, Jax, and Rae are amazing! My 2 boys love to go to karate. While they are learning karate Z ultimate focuses on making sure they boys are showing respect, discipline, and humility. They really care about the kids!
I adore Z - Ultimate Self Defense Studios! I have been working with them for less than a year but I have thoroughly enjoyed every lesson with them. Everyone is extremely supportive and patient, and have a really good sense of humor. Other students at the dojo are friendly, show a lot of respect, especially those of higher rank, and have been nothing but positive with each other as we progress in our development. I could not ask for better senseis than Kristen and Jax! My favorite move will forever be the chicken-wrist. I would strongly recommend anyone to come to this dojo to learn it and get the bonus of a fantastic experience!
I have been receiving training in passive self defense - disabling an attacker using pressure point techniques. The instruction at the Greenwood Village Z-Ultimate studio is excellent-just what I need. I have advance training in other marital arts styles ( brown belt), but I find the training at Z-Ultimate to be superior and focused on self defense. I enjoy my training and highly recommend Z-Ultimate Greenwood Village.
My son loves how they teach respect, discipline and humility. And self defense in case y'all have a wild encounter.
I agree with my son's statement and the staff is super nice and yet still firm with the kids on the core qualities they support. Definitely recommend this place. Our 3 yo start taking private sessions in Z-Ultimate Self Defense Studios Greenwood Village couple of months ago and we LOVE every moment he spends there. Besides a joy of watching your child having fun, we already see improvement in his behavior, during the session as well as after. Kristen teaches him many important values, such as respect, focus, listening and discipline. We recommend all of our friends with kids to try Z Ultimate Self Defense Studios Greenwood Village, they are AMAZING!
My daughter has more self-confidence and feels safer after taking classes with Kristin. She really enjoys learning new things, and talks very positively about the class. It's a great class for youth, as it gives them skills and courage. I highly recommend Z Ultimate and Kristin!
There are several things that I love about Z-Ultimate. First, they really work with my and other student's injuries. I often joke with a fellow student that if there was a way to put us together, we'd make a whole person... We all excel and push do do more. Second, I'm able to train at any dojo available. I love being able to go to other dojo's and work with some instructors you meet at tournaments. I first saw Sensei Kristen at a tournament doing a Sai form and wanted to do that when I reached rank. This was entirely possible at this organization. I was just blessed that she took over head instructor at my current school! Lastly, I love the comradery across the dojo's. We are a family in the struggle of life together!
I absolutely love Kristen! She is really experienced and truly cares for her students. I have never met an instructor that is as professional and caring as her. Highly recommend!
Went to Colorado dojo from California. Sensei Kristen treated both myself and my daughter like family!! Then if you know ZUltimate we are a family and this is one of the Best things about ZUltimate
