I have been a student of Grand Master S.H. Yu's for 7 months now and have enjoyed every minute. What I like most about my experience thus far, is the fact that all of the instructors at the school do not try to mold you into a single image. Some people and kick high and others cannot (myself included). The instructors teach me at my pace and for my capabilities. I also like the fact that all of the instructors are extremely knowledgeable. They are all mild-mannered, patient and are excellent with younger students as well. I'm a parent of a 4 year old and next year I'm planning on enrolling him. This is a great school and a great place to learn about your body, yourself and martial arts.

My son was a student for many months at the school before we moved out of state. Let me say this is by far the best karate school ever on the planet! I was overly pleased with the structured skills taught by Master Yu. They were impressive! The fact that the energy in the building is extremely positive had me sold upon entering. Master Yu's personality is simply the kindest person you'll ever meet. The discipline is shown in such a healthy way that the students automatically have the highest respect for their instructors. Master Yu sets the tone for being a great leader so gracefully. My son had nothing but respect for Master Yu and the other instructors. Every time he attended class he was intrigued with excitement and dedication. He looked forward to going everyday because he was actually learning. But more importantly, I noticed that he was listening which was something he failed to do at times. The other thing I admired that students had to do were writing assignments to show their diligence and how hard work is earned and not given. The teachings and guidance taught here at this martial arts school is bar to none! The authenticity of the foundation to the basics is set apart from any other karate school my son had attended. The bonus that you receive for being a student here is that Grand Master Yu teaches and passes on ancient traditional martial art styles and skills( nothing you can learn about in a book). How cool is that! My son has developed the greatest skills in martial arts and he applies them to his everyday life. He looks forward to continuing his journey to being the best he can be in life using martial arts.

Master YU Martial Arts is real martial arts! It strengthens not only people's body, but also people's spirit. Master Yu focus on teaching strategy analysis and flexibility in defense practice. It is very unique and authentic martial arts! My daughter and I love it!

I joined Grand master Yu’s school in July 2017 and after 6 months, I can say that everything about this school is great! First, the Dojang is beautiful. It has a large matted area that provides a lot of space for practicing, and it is always clean. Grand Master Yu teaches a style that combines traditional Korean martial arts with several other Asian martial arts. This is so much more than punching and kicking! I have particularly been enjoying learning new self defense techniques and discovering the artistic aspect of traditional martial arts. The teaching environment is safe, and everyone is very nice and welcoming. I attend the adults/teenagers class which has students of all ages and fitness levels. The classes are taught by Grand master Yu, Master Wilson or one of the black belt instructors. All the instructors are really knowledgeable and very supportive. They are present and available throughout the class and participate actively in teaching the class, or help the students with learning new techniques. I have also had the opportunity to see several kids classes and I am looking forward to enroll my son and daughter when they are old enough to start! Finally I would recommend anyone who is thinking of trying martial arts or who (like me) had practiced before and wants to starts again after a long break, to contact Grand Master Yu or Master Wilson and visit the school.

There is an old proverb that says “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear” well if you are ready to learn traditional martial arts, Grand Master Yu is the teacher for you! I have been taking adult martial arts classes at Master S.H Martial Arts and Fitness Associates for over a year now and I love it! The classes are convenient, and the instructors are great. Grand Master Yu has a way of helping each student get exactly what he or she need from his or her training. Regardless of your level Master Yu and his instructors are determined to make sure each of their students are challenged, constantly improving, and well nurtured as martial artist. I don’t have children, but I love catching Master Wilson and Grand Master Yu interact with the students in their children’s classes. The children who attend Master S.H Martial Arts and Fitness Associates are not only learning defense techniques, but they are taught to be courteous, respectful, and self-disciplined. As a teacher I could only imagine how those traits carry over not only into the classroom or at home, but in all the aspects of their young students’ lives. If I could I would give this place infinite stars because 5 just isn’t enough. I am so glad I decided to study with Master S.H Martial Arts and Fitness Associates.

I started going to Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts when I was seven years old. I am now eighteen years old and owe my sense of responsibility, determination, and respect, to Grand Master Yu and Master Wilson. As Grand Master Yu often says, we are a family, and there is always someone willing to help you and make sure you become the best that you can possibly be. It is a great school for our child to learn how to protect, discipline himself and be respectful, helpful to others. All the children are attentive and very respectful. My family and I have been students at this martial arts school since 2002. My now adult children (ages 20 and 19) began at ages 5 and 4, respectively, then I joined a few years later. The lessons experienced here helped us immensely in many aspects of our lives, both on and off the mat. I took a nine-year break and lessons/experiences with Grandmaster Yu and Master Wilson were still unfolding yielding their gifts years later. I feel that we would not have achieved the goals we've set for ourselves were it not for that training in our lives at that time. It helped me grow so much as a parent, as a human.The teaching quality at this martial arts school is unsurpassed. Senior Grandmaster Yu is a genuine treasure; we are so lucky to have this opportunity to learn and continue this lineage in such a traditional, undiluted and experiential way. Master Wilson was (and continues to be) a valued mentor in my family's life. She is a firm but compassionate instructor and needed, exemplary role model for women. It goes without saying that you will become physically fit from this training, but honestly that is just a byproduct.

My boys (8 and 5 years old) started at Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts about 4 months ago and they absolutely love it. Grandmaster Yu and Master Wilson have cultivated a welcoming and nurturing community. The kids learn confidence, respect, and discipline. They are challenged to grow physically and mentally, which is different than other schools. It really feels like a family community here and we are happy to be a part of it.

This dojhang has quickly become my second home in Oak Park. I feel very supported and encouraged by all my instructors. I look forward to coming here and training. I know I can come to the owners about anything as they are very understanding and trustworthy people with a lot of integrity.

Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts is a great place to strengthen yourself physically and mentally. You learn the basic discipline, focus, and reflexive reaction. In addition to that, you are given the opportunity to force yourself to commit to achieving your goals. The instructors are very dedicated and motivating. However, they can only teach and encourage you to improve. You are in control of whether you do it or not. Martial arts provides a chance for you to choose to change and grow.

When I first started, I absolutely hated it. It just wasn't me. Nevertheless, I eventually decided to try to actually learn. It taught me things I never would’ve thought I could do. I was learning control, respect, and perseverance from a beautiful, ancient art. I’m glad I was forced to join because now, I realize that martial arts does influence my life.

My husband and I have been taking classes with Grandmaster Yu for almost six months. We both have previously practiced martial arts individually and have tried many other schools. We have been really impressed with everything about the school. We signed up with the intention of coming twice a week and we find ourselves trying to come as much as possible. All the instructors are knowledgeable and patient. The curriculum is well thought out and there is great emphasis on discipline and respect. There are adult classes four times a week and they start late enough that we can easily make it after work. Grandmaster Yu is always there to help guide and encourage all his students. You really feel that he cares that you learn everything correctly and safely. I would highly recommend this school if you are a novice to martial arts or if you have done martial arts before and want to get back into it. This place is in it's own league as far as I'm concerned.

I've been working with Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts Oak Park for almost 2 years and I have to say I am very impressed with the level of enthusiasm and passion they have with traditional martial arts. Sr. GrandMaster Yu certainly lives up to his name as a local legend, and Master Wilson is dedicated and passionate about teaching students of all ages. She's also very diligent when it comes to Facebook and website updates as well as newsletters to keep everyone updated on upcoming tests, promotion ceremonies, and camps. This is a wonderful martial arts school and I couldn't be any happier to work with them.

Sensei Dejan is a great instructor and he responds to any questions that I had. The online class is organized and easy to understand, all you have to do is follow along with him as he guides you through the techniques. It is similar to other work out videos but you are learning karate instead. I highly recommend this online course to anyone who is looking to learn karate and earn a black belt.
