About Catherine

Hi, students and parents! My name is Catherine and I am a junior at Vanderbilt University. I’ve worked with K-8 students during my high school and college years. I’m here to help your student or you with math, history, or improving writing skills (either academic or creative)!

My name is Catherine and I am currently a junior majoring in Secondary Education and U.S. History and minoring in Child Development at Vanderbilt University. I currently spend my time volunteering in an after-school program tutoring for English and Math or occasionally drawing if I have the chance. I am passionate about helping others gain a greater appreciation for learning and showing that any subject can be fun! Teaching is truly a rewarding experience and I love meeting all types of students. I have extensive experience working with students K-8 but am excited to work with students of all ages.

It's always been my dream to become a teacher. I love working with children and older students alike. I began volunteering at a Saturday school in high school and my love of teaching only grew from there. I was inspired by my high school history teacher and I'm on my journey to licensure!

I'm currently studying to get a degree in Secondary Education and will ultimately be licensed to teach high schoolers by graduation. I spend much of my free time volunteering to tutor students and also have extensive experience working with students from my high school years. I've worked at summer camps and tutored students (in groups and individually) for four years now.

I volunteered at a Saturday school, worked as an art teacher, martial arts instructor, worked at a summer camp, and tutored students in subjects including history, English, writing, and math. I've mostly worked with student from K-8, but have some experience working with older students.

About the lesson

It's important for me to be prepared for the lesson so I always ask what material they are learning and what their expectations are for a tutor.

When the session starts, typically, I introduce myself and give a brief overview of who I am and what I enjoy. I love getting to know my students on a deeper level!

I mostly work with students K-8 but have some experience with older students. I love younger kids because of their enthusiasm for learning.

I've also worked with students who have or are at risk of having learning disabilities, including ADHD and dyslexia. With these students, I give extra support to organization and structure to the lesson.

I volunteer at an after school program with low-income students. These students hold a special place in my heart and I look forward to seeing them every week. I remember when I worked with Meerkah, a student who struggled with reading. I loved working with her because she was so proud of herself for reading her assigned readings and would always hug me before she left. I am so fond of the special relationships that I make with all my students.

I typically charge $30 per hour for all my students. If there are specific needs/arrangements to be made, I am flexible to changing my rates. Although I am a paid tutor, I hope to make learning more accessible for students of all backgrounds.
