About Ashley

Are you finding yourself unexpectedly homeschooling your child this year? Let me help you out! I am a recent college graduate with a minor in mathematics - I pursued this minor simply because I enjoyed math, and I would love to help your child better understand their math coursework and improve their performance. I am comfortable teaching any K-12 concepts - let me know how I can help!

I have always enjoyed teaching others. From the time that I was homeschooled growing up, I would teach my younger sister her lessons when my mom was busy. I tutored math at my community college and was able to help people of all ages who were earning their degrees (some who hadn't taken math in 30 years!), which was an extremely rewarding experience.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Minor in Mathematics from Ohio University. Mathematics courses I have completed include: College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and Statistics. I worked as a math tutor at a community college for two years.

About the lesson

My preference is to get a chance to review the student's homework and corresponding textbook chapter in advance if possible, so I can be best prepared to make the most of our time together!

I have worked with a diverse population of students. In my role as a math tutor at a community college, I worked with anyone from high schoolers to continuing education students in their 50's and 60's!

There are so many different ways of learning, and my #1 advice is don't let anyone sell you short if you have a different learning style than the one that they teach. Find the teacher that's willing to learn your style! Math has actually been a subject that has challenged me throughout life - I would go between hating it and loving it, and that's one of the reasons I pursued my minor in math. I was often the only girl in a high-level math classroom full of boys, and often felt like the only one who wasn't understanding a concept as quickly or easily as those around me. This would frustrate me, but also motivate me. I consistently went to math tutoring myself during college, where I had the opportunity to sit down with my peers and learn different perspectives on approaching the problems. In the end, this was what helped me the most to excel in these classes.
