About Brian

I have a love for math and science, and helping others to grasp and excel in these subjects! I bring to the (virtual) table classroom teaching experience in science, prior tutoring experience in math, and a person record of excellence (see below) on standardized tests. I am comfortable working with a wide range of students, from those currently struggling to get by to those looking distinguish themselves at the top of their class and/or increase their performance on standardized tests.

I am currently accepting new clients for *virtual-only* sessions for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, with very limited exception.

Personal Standardized Test Achievements:

- 800 on the SAT Math section

- 800 on the GRE Math section

- 5 on the BC Calculus AP Exam

- 5 on the AP Chemistry Exam

- 5 on the AP Physics C: Mechanics Exam

- 5 on the AP Biology Exam

Both math and science offer unique ways of understanding the world around us. For some these subject areas seem enigmatic, but once the pieces come together they offer (in my opinion) the most satisfying of experiences in challenging yourself to master more to rigorous material and with greater accuracy and precision.

I take great joy from supporting students to overcome the initial hurdles that hold them back in these areas, and watching that translate into greater and greater self confident to excel in any address that they initially struggle in. I also love working with students aiming to reach for the highest levels of achievement, re-thinking or fine-tuning their approach to more fully excel.

I hold a Master's of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University, as well as undergraduate degree in both Chemical Engineering and Economics from Case Western Reserve University. Additionally I have three years of experience as a science teacher, teaching in both middle and high school.

I start with a free 15-30 minute consultation to learn more about the student and context for tutoring to determine if my skills and expertise are a good match for the situation, and, if so, to ensure that I have enough information to make our paid time together as effective as possible. This would include discussing the specific subject area(s), the student's goal(s), current progress, study attitudes and habits, prior and/or concurrent engagement with other tutors or learning supports, and any barriers to study and/or tutoring.

If both you and I want to move forward with tutoring following the consultation, then I typically drive in with a student on whatever subject matter they are currently covering in any ongoing classes or programs and assess any gaps in supporting knowledge as we go. This helps to ensure that students see some initial results as quickly as possible while also providing any support needed for foundational knowledge and building blocks.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think through the following:

1. What is motivating you to improve and/or excel in your studies?

2. What do you already know about how you learn best?
