About Alla

I am currently a student studying Mathematics and Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University. With years of tutoring experience, I can help you or your child achieve higher test scores and a deeper level of comprehension at a reasonable rate.

Mathematics is challenging, and the modern public school curriculum is usually insufficient to impart any lasting knowledge or understanding upon current students. Children are taught to pass standardized tests, but struggle later when they lack the prerequisite knowledge for more advanced topics.

As a tutor, my goal is to identify and fill in these knowledge gaps. Together, I believe that we can significantly improve your grades and turn math into an enjoyable subject rather than a source of stress!

I started tutoring when I was in middle school. I was enrolled in the school's gifted program, and was taking high school math courses as a middle school student. Because I maintained an A+ average in the course, I was allowed to work as a volunteer tutor for the school.

I am currently a Senior studying Mathematics and Computer Science and have been tutoring since I was 12 years old.

Before our first session, we will talk about which areas the student is currently struggling with, what grade level they are at, and how far behind they currently are. From there, during the first session, we will work a number of problems (usually from the student's homework assignment or most recent quiz/test, sometimes questions prepared by the tutor if the student does not have these materials available). I will watch and listen closely, noting areas where the student seems to struggle, and going over any problem areas.

At the end of the session, I will give the student (and parents, if applicable) my assessment of what the problem is and recommend anywhere from 1-12 sessions per month to keep the student on track to passing the course.

"Homework" will be assigned in some circumstances.

I have worked with everybody from third grade students to adults older than myself.

Finding the right tutor is a balancing act between minimizing your costs and maintaining quality. The cheapest possible tutor may not be effective. However, the most expensive tutor may be unnecessary if you need tutoring in a subject below the college level.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A student should ask themselves, when did I start struggling? Did I ever experience breaks in my education, either due to time off from school or poor instructors? How much time am I able to dedicate to tutoring? How much time do I have before the next big exam or standardized test?

These answers may help the tutor identify a good starting point and recommend an appropriate tutoring schedule.

Typically, tutoring is $30/hr except for calculus tutoring, which is $40/hr. I will not nickel and dime you for going 10 minutes over the hour. In some cases, these prices are negotiable: for example, if I need to travel far to get to a session, gas costs are a consideration, as are wear and tear on my car; on the other hand, sessions purchased in bulk can be purchased at a discounted rate.
