About Andrea
I started teaching 20 years ago as an emergency substitute in the Seattle area. I was a school bus driver and saw a notice about a sub shortage. Anyone with a bachelor's degree could apply. After only a few days, I discovered that I LOVED being in the classroom and working with students of all ages! I went back to school and earned my Master's in Teaching degree. Since then, I have taught in Kindergarten through college classrooms, and have worked with adult learners as well.
I have a master's degree in teaching and a bachelor's degree in applied linguistics. I hold a teaching license in Washington state and a Master Educator's license in Iowa. I have taught for 20 years. The majority of my time has been teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grade and teaching study strategies at the local community college. I have taught highland tenor drumming, Scottish Country Dance, and ESL. I am also trained in cognitive coaching.

When working with a new student, I begin by building a relationship. In my 20 years of teaching hundreds of students, I have learned that the saying, "They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care," is very true. Our first session is a lot of getting to know the student, what their needs are, and their likes and dislikes. After that, I tailor every tutoring session to meet the needs of each student as an individual.
Over the last 20 years, I have worked with hundreds of students. I have worked with students who love school and are eager to learn everything, and struggling students who find school difficult. I have worked with adults returning to the classroom looking for a career change and small children just opening a book for themselves for the first time. I have taught internationally and worked with students from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. I have taught in both public and private schools. My experience is extensive, varied, and successful.

$30/hour for online tutoring.
$35/hour for in-home tutoring sessions where I come to you. I also am available to facilitate learning pods up to 10 students. The fee remains the same, however, the cost is split between the students, so it can be as low as $3.50/hour.
$30/hour if you come to me at my in-home office/classroom in Boone, Iowa.
$25/hour for Cognitive Coaching.
