About Grace

Howdy! I'm Gracie, and I'm a sophomore honors student at Texas A&M. I have 5 years of tutoring experience with a broad age range. These past few summers I've had the opportunity to tutor multiple students in various kinds of math, from arithmetic to fractions to algebra 1 to geometry. In just weeks, students I’ve worked with have gone from struggling with fundamentals of a subject to passing their end-of-year benchmarks! I tutor any kind of math up to geometry and reading/writing. I love education and value the genuine understanding and success of kids in schools, especially when so many struggle with the uniformity of the current system. It would be a great honor to assist your family with any tutoring work I can!

I used to get asked a lot by my middle school math teacher to help my peers with their homework when I finished, so I decided to start tutoring on my own a few years later.

I am a formally trained tutor with a program at Texas A&M called Reads & Counts, and I have 5 years of experience under my belt that’s taught me how to interact with different types of people and what teaching methods are most effective.

About the lesson

I typically spend a few minutes with introductions and talking to the student about things they enjoy to get a feel for their personality and humor, then jump right into the work. I try to keep things very light and be playful to minimize discomfort, tension, and stress but also maintain productivity.

I have worked with many elementary and middle school students, one of whom had mild autism. I have also worked with high school students. Many of the students I have worked with have had strict deadlines for getting through a subject.

Because of their certifications, teachers are likely to charge far more than I charge for a tutoring session. Consider how much you are willing to pay for services and whether you actually need a professional teacher for your subject or not. If it means anything, hiring a freelance tutor is like supporting small businesses, and the money I earn tutoring funds my education!

A 4th grader who I tutored for 2 months this summer passed her benchmark test to go to 5th grade after barely knowing her multiplication tables when I first met her!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Identify specific topics they are struggling with, consider distractions that may be inhibiting their learning environment, search for online resources that may clear up confusion, then determine the steps they are willing to take/that will be necessary to improve their performance.

Details

For simpler maths, my rate is $25/hr. For Algebra 1 and Geometry, my rate is $30/hr. Each session has a $5 travel fee.
