About Martha

My service stands out because I am current high school math and physics teacher. I know the standards and expectations as well as some great tutoring tricks to help you succeed! I believe in building relationships first and foremost so I will strive to make you feel comfortable and at peace while we work through problems together. Above all, I believe anyone can learn math or physics and so I'll work to make that a reality for you.

I am certified to teach math and physics in California and I have been teaching for 9 years. I have been tutoring for about 14.

I love getting to know students and helping them achieve their goals. I think each student is full of talent and potential, but sometimes they just need a little more help. I love it when a student gains an insight into something they didn't understand before. It's so exciting to watch and be a part of!

In college, I started teaching physics at a small private school that was desperate for a senior physics teacher. That experience made me realize how much I loved it! I taught there for two more years, went back and got my masters in teaching and then have taught ever since!

I am a certified math and physics teacher with a masters in education. I received my bachelors in math and physics. I have been teaching for 6 years and tutoring for about 10.

About the lesson

In the first meeting, I like to get to know the student and their strengths. I enjoy learning about their passions and hobbies so that I can incorporate that into their learning. I then ask them to share what they feel they need the most help in and why. I believe tutoring should be student led so that they get the most out of the experience!

I've worked with a wide variety, from 6th grade to seniors in high school. I have worked with students who need more support (2-3 sessions a week) as well as students who just need a little help every once in a while (1 session every other week) and everything in between. In my teaching, I work with students with learning disabilities and those who high achieving.

Make sure the person is friendly and patient and knows what they're doing. It's really important that you feel comfortable with your tutor, though, and that you know you can always ask questions.

Details

Typically, because of my experience and qualifications, I charge between $60-70 an hour for private lessons. If you're looking for group tutoring, I charge about $35 per student per hour. I don't allow groups to be bigger than 4 students though.
