About Eleanor

I've been tutoring elementary and middle school math, English, and Spanish for five years (I have my TEFL certification). When I'm home in Illinois I have a lot of in-person tutoring jobs, but while I'm here in Boston for school, I would love to find some new students! I'm happy to meet face-to-face or use FaceTime/Skype.

My favorite part about being a tutor is watching a student's confidence in a subject grow. I'm a big believer in the idea that if you BELIEVE you're good at something, you'll perform better. Confidence is half the battle!

My mom is a math teacher, so I learned pretty young that I love working with students. I love seeing students' confidence grow as they become more comfortable with different skills!

I've been tutoring since I started high school, so I have lots of practice and lots of patience!

About the lesson

When working with students, I like to focus on the specific skills that are giving them the most trouble. We normally do practice problems together, and then the student moves on to trying them alone and asking me questions if they get stuck. I'm a big fan of figuring out a pattern of steps that students can use for lots of similar problems.

I've mostly worked with middle schoolers and young high schoolers (up to Algebra I).

I would tell a student to make sure to find a tutor you get along with and enjoy spending time with. Working with a tutor can be frustrating, and it'll only be worse if you don't like the person teaching you!
