About Tatum

I am an enthusiastic person and love helping others improve themselves. My approach will be personalized to the individual and we will work together as a team. I appreciate feedback from the student to see if we need to try a different approach with the material because this is all about them!

It is wonderful to see students tap into their potential and see their confidence rise. I know it's not always going to be easy for them, but we will work together to accomplish milestones along the way.

My Engineering degrees were not easy and I struggled at times. However, putting in the hours and hard work paid off and I always looked back at the end of a course or project and could proudly say "I did that! I gave it my all!" Even if there were areas for improvement, I knew I was better than I was in the previous week. That is how I want students to feel. Progress takes time.

My mother is an elementary school teacher so I grew up in the classroom at all times haha. She always encouraged me to push myself and ask questions in school. That's how I was able to be an A student. I've always wanted to help others do well, so I started tutoring my peers and it took off from there!

I have a bachelors degree in industrial engineering and masters degree in engineering management.
Throughout middle school, high school, and even college I would work with my classmates to tutor them on the material. Also, I was a math tutor for middle school students through my high school years. If I didn't pursue engineering, teaching would have been my next career choice!

About the lesson

I like to figure out the student's preferred learning style; not everyone is the same. It's important to have a safe space with the student so they can express their questions and we can work well together to master new learning material.

I've worked with students ages 10-20. Some students don't want the help because they have never "done well" and lose hope. All they need is to see that they are not hopeless and can improve. Accomplishing smaller milestones improves their confidence so they can continue on!
