About Caite

I have 17 years experience tutoring students in math and english. I offer creative and flexible solutions to busy families.

I enjoy problem solving with students to improve their academic performance. I love helping young people reach their academic goals.

I think I was born nerdy, so teaching sort of found me. I began casually helping peers in middle school, and began tutoring in earnest in college.

I hold a bachelor's degree in Economics from McGill University and a JD from the University of Houston Law Center. I tutor part-time only because I love to help young people succeed.

About the lesson

Depending on the student's age I like to start by listening to what the parent and/or student has to say about the goals for tutoring. I then conduct an assessment in the subject tutoring is sought for. If tutoring is requested for college level or legal writing, I typically request a writing sample.

Lessons are designed to address the stated goals based on the assessment results.

Math: K-10

Science: K-10

English: K - College + Legal Writing

For kids ages K-5th grade, my best advice is to pick someone who makes learning fun and approaches learning creatively without too rigid a structure.

For older kids and adults, my best advice is to choose someone who makes you feel like they are there to help you achieve the goals you set for yourself.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Why do you want a tutor? Are you looking for enrichment, help to overcome an academic challenge, or someone to help reduce the effort you need to put into your academics so you can focus on other things?

Is virtual learning right for you? Or, do you need to sit down with someone in person. In this current environment there are a lot of tutors (like myself )who will not offer in person sessions, so before you start it's important to consider whether the delivery method will be worth the money.

How much flexibility do you need in your schedule? Are things changing all the time? Will you need to cancel or re-schedule at the last minute - different tutors have different tolerance for last minute schedule changes.
