About William
I feel that a student's ability to grasp mathematical concepts is undermined by the belief that math is a series of formulae, steps, and processes that are fixed and must be memorized rather than understood. I can reveal a lot of the hidden truths regarding concepts taught in College Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, and several other math subjects at the K-12 and College Freshman level.
I am not a longstanding tutor, I have worked at a community college for about 4 months tutoring both programming and mathematics. I am an avid math enthusiast who feels that most math is not taught in a way that is understandable to math and non-math majors.
I realized that many students are just being taught incorrectly, and that they do have the capacity to understand when the concepts are presented in the right way. Teaching should not be just about enabling a student to pass a class or a test, but allow for the student to utilize the concepts taught later in life. Not everything taught will, but if the student has a deep understanding of most, he/she should be able to see and choose what is useful for future personal endeavors.
At San Jacinto College as a tutor in Computer Science where some math tutoring was necessary in order to explain the programming concepts. I actually would start by stating that programming is actually mathematics applied to a system constrained to counting by 2 rather than 10, and then I would explain what it means to count by 2, and they would learn how a computer works.
I worked as a tutor at San Jacinto College for about 3-4 months. I tutored in computer science, which I am currently pursuing a bachelor's in.

I would probably ask what their current issue is and what they want to gain from tutoring. I would probably delve a bit into the underlying aspects of math if they express interest; otherwise I would address the direct problem and guide them through solving it.
Students both younger and older than me, as well as foreign and not. I believe one was over 40 years old and another had just got out of highschool.
Analyze his vocabulary or manner of speech and gauge whether he is either, simplifying concepts for your sake, or, does not to prove his knowledge. A person who employs terminology is either, trying to sell himself, or instill confidence in those listening that he knows what he is talking about. Those who do not are considerate of all potential listeners and know that many may not be able to follow.
I, for example, am employing math terminology, as proof of my understanding, because I lack the credentials typically sought after in this line of work.
I think the greatest moment I had in tutoring for San Jac was getting a student who may not have been a major in Computer Science to understand the nature of computers themselves, and he found it very fascinating. I believe I taught him four times and he chose to learn from me because I was willing to delve into the depth of it, as if he was not incompetent or incapable. I also had another student prefer to learn from me because of the way I went about teaching; although, this was Computer Science, even though I have more deeply explored Mathematics.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Always mention the subject and level that you are learning and explain what you do not understand in that specific area, rather than stating your confusion in all of it: unless that is actually true. When you do that, however, teachers and tutors may feel the need to go over math from the beginning, which may feel like a waste of time. Tutors will generally try to focus on the topic that you are learning or specific concepts, while teachers might delve into the underlying principles behind those concepts; although they do try to simplify things. The primary issue with learning from teachers is that some are teaching from a script because they are constrained to a finite amount of time. Tutors can dedicate a bit more time in explaining or providing a system of practice that may eventually help a student understand. These can sometimes become inadequate later on, however, where deep understanding of math becomes critical.

$15 per hour. I cannot sell myself as better or more qualified than most other tutors because I lack the credentials and experience to prove that, but I am sure that a student who learns from me will not have to use me or another tutor. My goal is to get people to fully understand math, not necessarily to make money.
The pricing reflects my lack of experience, not my lack of knowledge, and I hope to prove that eventually.
