About Julie
Hello! My name is Julie Deshommes. I am a University graduate and a working Environmental Engineer. I have worked as a private tutor and TA for just shy of 4 years and love the work of teaching with the greatest passion. Nothing brings me joy like knowing that my students grow more comfortable and confident in their ability to understand their course material with every session. I aim to help each individual see results by offering personalized attention and teaching techniques to best suit their needs. I have experience working with students from elementary school through college, so if you are eager to learn, I am in your corner! Please reach out :)
For the better part of three years, I worked as a Learning Assistant (comparable to the work of TAs) at Florida Atlantic University, where I studied Environmental Engineering. As an LA, I underwent extensive pedagogy training to understand how to best facilitate student learning and encourage critical thinking in the classroom. This past summer, I also worked as a Math Boot Camp tutor, helping students with varying backgrounds and levels of understanding of mathematics. Having worked my way from elementary math to Calculus 2, I have gained the skills required to relate to my students as needed.

Previously, I have worked with students ranging from preschool-age to those far older than me at the college level. I have gained experience working with diverse groups in settings including international schools, children's summer camps, churches, and universities, to name a few. My work promotes inclusivity and an accommodative approach to learning (especially in South Florida where varying religious, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds are prevalent).
A great tutor will never shame you for asking questions. Learning is always more fun with a tutor who is willing to meet you where you are and move with you until it sticks. Finding someone you are comfortable with will make this process far more pleasant!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Sometimes, figuring out where to start is the greater half of the battle in learning. To solve a math problem, I encourage my students to first ask themselves:
What is it that I am looking to find? What information have I already been given? What information am I missing to make this connection? What methods have I learned already, and of these, which would be the most efficient way to go about filling in those gaps?
My objective is to encourage students to challenge themselves and grow confident in their abilities. Let's first start the conversation with what we already understand, and we will make progress from there!

Perfect! Julie is wonderful, caring, warm, intelligent, and has an incredible way of relating to kids. She puts a lot of thought into her lessons and fosters a love of math. I’m happy to have found her and recommend her to any of our friends that need a math tutor.
Excellent! We have had about 4-5 sessions and, so far so good!

Julie was a lovely young lady who connected well with your high school student in need of tutoring. Our high schooler worked both in person and online with Julie and both were effective. If your child is struggling with math, I recommend giving Julie a try.
Intelligent, kind and understanding. Helped my daughter immensely! I recommend Julie highly!
Julie tutored me during my Intro to Calculus class. The way that she simplified everything through her explanations really helped me understand and grasp the material. I especially liked the way that she taught me how to break down the long application word problems and get to the root of what the question is actually asking for. I definitely benefited from my time with her and would recommend her to anyone interested.
Julie was able to make a hard concept understandable. She is really nice and patient when it comes to tutoring. High recommend!
Julie is an excellent tutor. She is very nice and helpful and will help with any questions. I can't remember the name of the topic that I was struggling with but it was related to trigonometric functions and she helped me so much that I was able to get a good grade on test related to trigonometric functions. Please go see her if you need any help.
Julie is an amazing tutor. She’s very patient, she’s great at explaining math problems.
