About Kendra

Hello, I'm Kendra and am excited to help people learn and improve their approach to succeeding in school. My pronouns are they, them and theirs. I love math, physics, learning, and helping others. My goal with tutoring is to help people find motivation, study more efficiently, and meet their academic goals. My tutoring will help with subjects we focus on and give my students ways to do better in other classes in the present and future. As a new tutor, I'm motivated to become a better teacher due to my passion for learning and to prepare for teaching in my future academic goals.

I've always loved teaching things I'm knowledgable about to friends and classmates. I plan on getting a PhD and persuing a career researching and teaching in academia, so I want to start gaining experience and improving my teaching skills now.

I'm qualified to get an A.S. in Physics from Santa Rosa Junior College and am currently applying to transfer into a Physics B.S. program.

About the lesson

I'll start by asking about goals, priorities, interests, topics they struggle with, and what kind of help they are looking for. This can include working on foundational skills, helping them understand new topics, teaching efficient studying or motivational skills, or just general guidance through their courses. We'll do an assessment if the student is unsure of where they need to improve. If part of our work is to keep up with a class, I'll ask for a list of topics the class is covering and in what order so I can plan our sessions better. Then I'll create a plan that we can review to ensure it aligns with the students needs.

That seeking help with a subject doesn't mean you're bad at it or shouldn't persue further education in the field it belongs to. There are many reasons people struggle in school, and an inherent inability to learn is never one of them. With enough work and effective studying, you can always catch up and even excel at any subject. I hope you can be proud that you're taking steps towards improving by looking for tutoring.
