About Nonie

Hi! My name is Nonie Kalra, and I am a recent graduate with a Masters in Public Health from the University of Miami, with a background in Biology, Math, and Social Sciences. My style of tutoring is supportive, I like to build relationships with my students, teach them the importance of being self motivated and how to utilize online resources to delve deeper into material they are given in class and have a more holistic understanding of the content. I like to personalize my lessons to each student's individual needs and preferences, making tutoring an enjoyable extracurricular rather than a chore or more school. I'm extremely sociable, and genuinely love to engage with children. I would love to be able to help your little ones!

I have been working as a tutor for the 2 years on-and-off with over a dozen students, primarily middle school (grades 6th-8th) and elementary (mostly 1st-4th grade). Currently I have 3 active students. I have previous experience working at a children's day care as a teacher's assistant, as well as teaching dance classes to young children (grades pre-K to 6), and have been a swim instructor for over a year for all ages as young as 3 years old.

About the lesson

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The main thing I see is that there are two types of students, students who need help with the content/material of their classes, and students who need help with study skills/time management. Though I have worked with both kinds of students, I do love to help children through the latter. Similar to the saying "teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime", I believe that having the proper skills to study and learn help a student in a far more impactful way. Since this is a skill I struggled with much during my own childhood, I am passionate about helping more students with this, in addition to the more acute help they need in their classes.
