About Brianna

Parents of both my students who I've worked with at Mathnasium and students who I've private tutored have expressed their gratitude for working with their children to help them to realize their mathematical potential, and help build their confidence in their abilities both inside and outside the classroom. Parents communicate to me that I am more effective than previous teachers their students have worked with because of my emphasis on conceptual understanding of the material, rather than the memorization of formulas and processes. Thus, by shifting my students' perspective on how to go about learning math, I've had some awesome success stories, particularly with my AP Calculus and Integrated math students, some of which went from being D to B+ students.

Since working as an Instructor at Mathnasium, my passion for teaching math and building relationships with my students has continued to exponentially grow. Even though I have experience tutoring other subjects such as chemistry, AP English, and AP European History, math has consistently stayed my favorite subject to teach, because I feel that it is the most intimidating and frustrating class for most students. As a Lead Instructor at Mathnasium, I specialized in working with our students who may not have had the best attitude towards school or math, because I found the challenge of not only teaching material, but finding a way to make that experience exciting and enjoyable for a student who had had a poor relationship with mathematics in the past, to be extremely rewarding. Not only would I (and the student and parents) see an improvement in the student's quantitative performance in their math class, but also a qualitative improvement in their disposition when doing math, which only further aided in them increasing their grades in school. My other specialization was in tutoring our high school students in geometry with proofs, trigonometry, college algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus. I love private tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to build deeper relationships with my students than would be possible at a tutoring center, and therefore can even more effectively work with them to customize learning plans and teach test taking strategies and organizational skills on top of the instruction of just the material.

About the lesson

Students and parents should consider a teacher's track record with previous students and compare their teaching methodolgies to other instructors. High quality teaching comes from experience not only with the subject matter but also with student relationships and learning to adapt to each student's unique learning style.
